Info for bittersweet

The German-Italian pianist Sophie Pacini is releasing her album entitled bittersweet, on which she presents her own collection of encouraging masterpieces that serve as a reminder that the beauty of music can bring new strength even in life's bittersweet moments. Inspired by an intimate and moving concert in a women's refuge, the pianist now wants to give light and hope to many other people with this collection of personal and heartfelt works. In a world that is often characterised by uncertainty and stress, this album is intended to provide comfort and remind us that beauty, pain and hope are often mysteriously connected.

Handel, Schumann, Brahms, Mozart, Chopin, Debussy and others as a source of comfort and encouragement in personal crises.

Music is the best medicine - as the internationally acclaimed pianist Sophie Pacini demonstrates impressively and, above all, sonorously on her new album ‘bittersweet’.

Inspired by an intimate, moving concert in a women's refuge in Munich, the ECHO Klassik winner was keen to give hope and light to many other people in dark hours with a compilation of her personal favourite pieces.

The result is ‘bittersweet’ - Sophie's own collection of encouraging masterpieces that act as a gentle embrace in the midst of crises and challenges. In a world often characterised by uncertainty and stress, the music on this album offers a powerful comfort - a reminder that beauty, pain and hope are mysteriously interwoven.

‘bittersweet‘ is like a musical diary for me,’ says the 33-year-old. The album reminds me of many moving phases in my life. Phases that have required reflection and courage and phases that have given me strength and confidence. Playing and listening to it fills me with humility and inner joy in equal measure. I am very grateful for everything I have achieved, but I am also aware of the hurdles I have had to overcome. But it's worth believing in your dreams and not giving up. If I can pass on even a little of what it has given me with my music, that makes me happy." (Sophie Pacini)

Sophie Pacini, piano

Sophie Pacini
Born in Munich in 1991, Pacini began her studies at the age of ten as a pupil of Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the Salzburg Mozarteum, where she was accepted two years later by the newly founded Institute for Highly Gifted Students. From 2007 she continued her studies in master classes given by Pavel Gililov, completing her diploma in 2011 with honours. In 2010 she became acquainted with Martha Argerich, who invited her the following year to give a recital as part of the Martha Argerich Project in Lugano, and who has since become an important figure in the young pianist’s career.

As a soloist she has performed with orchestras including Camerata Salzburg, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Dresden Philharmonic, Orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland Pfalz, Tokyo Philharmonic, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and Vienna Chamber Orchestra. Since 2013 Sophie Pacini has been supported by a scholarship from the Dortmund Mozart Society. In 2015 she received the ECHO Klassik Young Artist of the Year Award in the Piano category.
