Info for Lines
The lines drawn by these melodies freely extend without limit. This is the first trio album recorded in New York, produced by Makoto Ozone. After graduating from Keio University, the pianist moved to the United States and was selected for the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, where Danilo Perez serves as artistic director. He graduated as valedictorian from Berklee College of Music in 2019, and after returning to Japan, he is active in the young musician development project "From Ozone till Dawn" led by Makoto Ozone. In May 2024, he made his debut with the all-original solo piano album "When I Sing", produced by Makoto Ozone. Since then, in addition to solo activities, he has performed live in various forms, including work with the Shutaro Matsui Group, collaborations with orchestras, and the unit "soraya" with Kurena Ishikawa. This first trio album is recorded in New York in June 2025 under the production of Makoto Ozone once again, featuring a trio with drummer Dave King of The Bad Plus, also known for his work with the Julian Lage Trio, and bassist Charlie Lincoln, a longtime musical partner since Berklee days. Like the previous work, it consists entirely of original compositions, delivering fresh and vivid interplay reminiscent of the Ornette Coleman Trio and the Keith Jarrett Trio of the 1960s. The jacket illustration is newly drawn by artist Michiaki Mochizuki.
