Info for Am Ende der Nacht
In eleven musical miniatures, the trio led by pianist Kilian Kemmer tells of people, faded memories and marginal notes of everyday life.
A smoky bar, rainy April weather or a scene from a French black and white film. This is unpretentious chamber jazz, reduced to the essentials.
A smoky bar, rainy April weather or a scene from a French black and white film - on their new album ‘Am Ende der Nacht’, the trio led by pianist Kilian Kemmer tells of people, faded memories and marginal notes of everyday life in eleven musical miniatures. With Thomas Stabenow on bass and Julian Fau on drums, the trio explores catchy themes and then embarks on a journey into the poetic unknown. On the two compositions ‘Durch die Nacht’ and ‘Fabi 43’, long-time companion Matthieu Bordenave joins the trio on saxophone.

Kilian Kemmer
is a pianist and composer. Jazzpodium writes about him: ‘He leads his music sometimes minimalistically, sometimes lyrically, but then again with a lot of energy, back to the roots, to storytelling, to forgetting time, to euphony, to real life beyond all non-real time.’
Matthieu Bordenave
is a saxophonist and professor at the conservatory in Innsbruck. With ‘The Blue Land’, he has just released his second highly acclaimed album on ECM. BR-Klassik describes him as ‘one of the outstanding figures in contemporary European jazz. His tone paintings are timeless images of enchanting beauty and power.’
Thomas Stabenow
Double bassist Thomas Stabenow is one of the greats of the German jazz scene. He has played with Johnny Griffin, Lee Konitz and Billy Cobham, among others, recorded over 30 albums on his own label ‘Bassic Sound’ and given concerts with Stan Getz, Eartha Kitt, Chaka Khan and Al Jarreau.
Julian Fau
Drummer Julian Fau is a three-time winner of the ‘Bruno-Rother-Jazz-Wettbewerb’, was a member of the Bundesjazzorchester, won the WDR-Nachwuchs-Jazzpreis with this orchestra, came 2nd in the ‘Neuer Deutscher Jazzpreis’ with the Johannes Ludwig Quartett and 2nd in the ‘Future Sounds’ competition of the Leverkusen Jazz Festival with Ensemble 11.
