Biography Dutch Jazz Collective

Dutch Jazz Collective
Get ready if you’re a fan of big band jazz, horns galore and infectious grooves! Dutch Jazz Collective is a Rotterdam big band, founded by Bart van der List and Sander Smeets and containing up-and-coming young talents from the Dutch jazz scene. Their music has its roots in the jazz tradition, but looks towards the present and the future. Most important: the joy of playing! Last year, the band recorded their debut album Generations, which will be released a day before the festival and puts three generations of Rotterdam musicians in the spotlights: saxophonist Ab Schaap, trumpeter Jan van Duikeren, and saxophonist Benjamin Herman. The latter two will join Dutch Jazz Collective on stage in Ahoy. They are both brilliant and versatile musicians: Herman is the founder of New Cool Collective and will be performing at the festival with several of his projects. Van Duikeren is a much sought-after soloist and session player who plays in his own bands as well as accompanying other artists with Special Request Horns, which he co-founded.
