Info for Brahms: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 2 / Strauss: Don Juan (Live at Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival / 2024)

This is a live recording of the concert program from the Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival (OMF) in 2024, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Saito Kinen Orchestra, of which conductor Seiji Ozawa is the general director. In 2024, the first time in the festival's history, Seiji Ozawa nominated Nodoka Okizawa, the winner of the Besançon International Competition for Conductors, to take the stage as principal guest conductor. This album "Brahms: Symphonies No. 1 & No. 2, etc." is a live recording including the program that marked Nodoka Okizawa's inauguration as principal guest conductor. The main program includes Brahms' Symphonies No. 1 and No. 2, which were the core repertoire of the Saito Kinen Orchestra during its early overseas tours, and Richard Strauss' symphonic poem "Don Juan" as a coupling piece. Released in high-quality MQA-UHQ format. The Saito Kinen Orchestra (SKO) was formed in 1984, 10 years after the death of the late Hideo Saito, a great educator and one of the founders of Toho Gakuen, at the initiative of his student Seiji Ozawa and named after his teacher.

In 1992, the Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival (formerly the Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto) opened with Matsumoto City in Nagano Prefecture as the SKO's home base, and since then the festival has annually hosted opera and concert performances that have attracted worldwide attention. In addition, Seiji Ozawa and the Saito Kinen Orchestra have made numerous recordings together, including the album "Ravel: Opera "Kodomo to Magik"" released on Decca Classics in 2016, which won the 58th Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording. In May 2024, a live recording of a Tokyo performance under the baton of conductor/composer John Williams, a close friend of Seiji Ozawa, will also be released.
