Info for TRUE POWER
I Prevail have established themselves as the forerunners of their genre. The new album, once again produced by Tyler Smyth, features the kind of stadium-ready riffs that make your teeth rattle out of your gums and memorable, extremely catchy melodies that get stuck in your head for weeks. In addition, the band alternately mixes screamed vocals that sound like they crawled from the depths of hell with soaring, soulful vocals and heartfelt, intimate lyrics that go so deep they hit the marrow. The end result is an album that touches the listener in a very personal way.
„We took a ’no rules‘ mentality into the songwriting, and a lot of it is heavy as fuck, but the songs sound as diverse as they’ve ever been, too. There is a song on the record called ‚There’s Fear In Letting Go,‘ and that became a huge mantra for us. Yeah, it can be scary letting go of things, but it can also help you take back everything that’s yours: which is exactly what we’ve done on this album.“ (Brian Burkheiser)
"After their second album "Trauma" stormed the charts almost worldwide in 2019 (in Germany it reached a respectable #32!), the gentlemen from Southfield in the US state of Michigan are finally following up. The biggest trump card of "True power" is the unpredictability with which the 15 songs, most of them around three minutes long, resound from the speakers. Right at the beginning, after the rather pensive and atmospheric "There's fear in letting go", which also has a veritable pop feeling, there is a seamless transition into the brutal and brutal "Body bag". Metalcore and post-hardcore are still the dominating elements. However, these are regularly enriched with traces of other styles, such as in the steam ram "Self-destruction", spiced with classic crossover and rap rock moments, or with electronic gimmicks in "FWYTYK". The pleasing result is often an astonishing arena appeal - even on hard-hitting tracks. Recommended songs: "Fake", the hard-rocking "Long live the king", again featuring rap vocals, and the stadium anthem "The negative"." (Oliver Kube, EMP Editorial)

This oft-cited genre label, "post-hardcore," is a true musical grab bag. It can take you from the most delicate breathy vocals, delivered over ambient soundscapes and soft acoustic guitars, directly to breathtaking outbursts of rage—sometimes within just one song. But that's exactly what fans of bands like I Prevail from Rochester Hills, Michigan, appreciate.
Since 2013, Brian Burkheiser (vocals), Eric Vanlerberghe (vocals), Steve Menoian (guitar), and Gabe Helguera (drums) have been operating in this musical field—and have achieved a status that extends far beyond the genre. They have been nominated twice for a Grammy, have gold and platinum records on their shelves, and continue to surprise both old and new fans with their music. In May, I Prevail will be back live at four German concerts in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich, and Hamburg.
I Prevail recently released a single that perfectly showcases their range in a single song. "Deep End (Stripped)" features the "Stripped" version, which is so dazzling, poppy, and catchy that it could easily be placed between an Ed Sheeran and Giant Rooks song on the radio. The original version, found on their 2022 album "True Power," erupts in melodic fury in the chorus. And the live recording, recorded in London in 2023, seems even more majestic and powerful than the studio version, whipped up by the audible commitment of the audience.
I Prevail not only manage to produce this marriage of melody and aggression in the studio with a gun license, they are also an incredibly well-rehearsed, powerful live band. Songs like the hardcore outburst "Body Bag," the power ballad "Hurricane," the grim, screamo-infused "Self-Destruction," the 2016 hit "Scars" (which opens the album "Lifelines"), and the long-time fan favorite "Blank Space" from 2014, which emphasizes the hardcore roots, all demand to be heard and played live. That's exactly what I Prevail will be doing on their upcoming tour in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich, and Hamburg. Perhaps they'll even surprise us with new material—there are rumors of a follow-up to "True Power."
