Info for Solidarity

Trombonist, composer & arranger Zach Rich's "Solidarity" is an expansive, vivid program of original music, orchestrated for his Denver-based jazz quintet and chamber orchestra. Rich channels mentors, stage-mates & influences - from Billy Childs to John Clayton and Rufus Reid - infusing the music with a mergence of modern jazz dynamism and contemporary classical counterpoint, while his playing resonates with a warm, soulful lyricism and crisp rhythmic pop. Whether working regularly in saxophonist Remy LeBoeuf's groups, performing with his own bands or composing for the Dallas String Quartet, the New York Youth Symphony, or the Colorado Jazz Orchestra, Zach's ongoing trajectory as a compelling musical voice should be an inspiring one to watch.

"Solidarity consists for the most part of warm, gentle chamber jazz ably performed by Denver-based trombonist Zach Rich, his quintet, a four-piece string section and half a dozen invited guests. Besides playing elegant trombone, Rich, who teaches at Denver's Lamont School of Music, wrote and arranged all of the album's eight handsome songs. ..." (All About Jazz, Jack Bowers)

"In a nutshell this is brightly voiced chamber jazz from Denver trombonist and composer-arranger Zach Rich on an album of his own music recorded in a Colorado studio at the end of 2021 for jazz quintet and chamber orchestra. We liked the scurrying sax to-and-fro on the 'Anthem' track and Julian Carey's vocal on his own lyrics to 'What is the Worl ..." (Marlbank-UK, Stephen Graham)

"Briefly quoted from the press release for the album: "Trombonist, composer & arranger Zach Rich's "Solidarity" is an expansive, vivid program of original music, orchestrated for his Denver-based jazz quintet and chamber orchestra. Rich channels mentors, stage-mates & influences—from Billy Childs to John Clayton and Rufus Reid—infusing the music ..." (Jazz'halo-Belgium, Ferdinand Dupuis Panther)
