Info for Winged Dreams
"Winged Dreams" is a sonic exploration of the full spectrum of emotions. Ranging from cinematic to intimate, powerful to understated — the project leaves no stone of the human experience unturned as it seeks to be a source of peace and hope in the midst of the certain challenges of life. It takes its name and inspiration from the poem “Weep No More” by John Fletcher. Each of the pieces in the suite can be found within the poem. Abilene’s signature sound shines throughout the recording as the ensemble marries classical elements with modern production in an unashamed pursuit of the beautiful.
“We’re thrilled for the world to finally hear these pieces which are dear to our musical hearts. This project demonstrates our firm belief that relevance is often found through reinvention and music should serve, inspire, and elevate the soul” (Abilene)
Abilene
Abilene
is a classical-fusion ensemble which takes its eclectic musical inspiration from the colorful, chic, and contemporary city they call home — Miami. They unashamedly find their relevance by looking to the past and reinventing the old. Members Joshua Spacht (piano / percussion), Katie Foto Berry (violin / vocals), David Molina (synths / percussion), and Gaylyn Foto (cello / vocals) combine their unique backgrounds and influences into a genre-bending style which marries classical idioms and instrumentation with modern techniques and production. The quartet’s haunting melodies, unconventional use of everyday objects for percussion, and love of film music create an unforgettable listening experience.
What started as a few days of music making in the studio turned into a fresh and captivating sonic palette that quickly generated numerous placements on film and television through their partnership with Musicbed. This led Abilene to record their first virtual concert in the middle of the Covid lockdown in an empty warehouse in the Miami arts district. Leaning into their love for travel and nature, Abilene performed the pieces from their Skye EP with the intent of taking the project to performing arts centers and concert halls once the pandemic subsided. The virtual concert attracted the attention of venues and presenters across the country, and the ensemble began to write and arrange new pieces for a Spring 2023 tour.
Abilene’s passion is the belief that music should serve, inspire, and elevate the soul. This mission is inherent in their live concerts as audiences join them on a cinematic journey that explores the light, shadow, fear, joy, and hope of the human experience.
