Remo Anzovino, piano
Remo Anzovino
Born in Pordenone in 1976 to Neapolitan parents, he began playing the piano as a child, while simultaneously delving into the study of composition and orchestration. At the age of 24, he graduated with honors in Law from the University of Bologna and went on to become a criminal defense lawyer.
Regarded by both critics and audiences as one of the most original and innovative composers active today, Remo Anzovino stands as a leading figure in Italian instrumental music.
He made his debut in the early 2000s by composing scores for major masterpieces of silent cinema, with his original soundtracks featured at prominent international festivals and events.
He has released five studio albums; the latest, *Nocturne*—recorded across Tokyo, London, Paris, and New York—was released in late 2017 by Sony Classical. His body of work also includes a live album recorded at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome (*Vivo*, 2013), as well as special projects such as *L’Alba dei Tram – Dedicato a Pasolini* and *Fight For Freedom: Tribute to Muhammad Ali* (with Roy Paci). He is the composer of the work for piano and male choir, “9 October 1963 (Suite for Vajont),” created in memory of the two thousand victims of the Vajont disaster. The piece was selected by the Vajont Foundation as the official music for the commemoration and, under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, was awarded the 2013 Anima Prize.
In recent years, he has been highly prolific in the field of cinema. He composed the soundtracks for several documentary films, including Didi Gnocchi’s “Canto alla Durata – Homage to Peter Handke”; Emanuela Audisio’s “Pasolini: Maestro Corsaro,” “From Clay to Ali: The Metamorphosis,” and “1968: Sport & Revolution”; as well as “Ceci n’est pas un cannolo,” the debut work of Tea Falco.
In 2018, he composed the soundtracks for the event-cinema films “Hitler vs. Picasso and the Others: The Nazi Obsession for Art”—which won the “Best Doc 2018” award at the Italian Movie Awards and the 2019 Nastro d’Argento for Best Art Documentary in the special “Art Events” category—“Van Gogh: Between Wheat and Sky,” and “Monet’s Water Lilies: A Spell of Water and Light.” These scores were released as three separate albums worldwide by Sony Masterworks between January and February 2019. For this work, he received a 2019 Nastro d’Argento Special Mention for “Art Music,” recognized for having “intensified the narrative by adding emotion to the feelings that art itself conveys to the general public through these highly successful special events.” The soundtracks have also been met with great acclaim by the international press, which—recognizing the unique language of the Italian composer—has highlighted the significance of the musical dimension in storytelling, noting its narrative power, melodic talent, and compositional intelligence.
On March 22, 2019, Sony Masterworks released the soundtrack album for the film *Gauguin in Tahiti: Paradise Lost*—the fourth installment in the "Great Art on Screen" (*La Grande Arte al Cinema*) series—to a global audience.
In March 2019, at the Teatro Persiani in Recanati, he headlined the sole concert held to commemorate the bicentennial of Giacomo Leopardi’s poem *L’Infinito* ("The Infinite").
In May 2019, he was selected by *Pianocity Milano*—the premier national festival dedicated to the piano—to serve as one of its ambassadors. Shortly thereafter, he traveled to Japan for his first two concerts there (at the Agnelli Auditorium in Tokyo and the International House in Osaka), further cementing his international presence following his successful performance at the Purcell Room in London during the 2018 London Jazz Festival.
In mid-November 2019, he made his U.S. debut with three concerts at iconic live-music venues: The Cutting Room in New York, Pianoforte Studios in Chicago, and The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
On November 22, 2019, Sony Masterworks released the global soundtrack album for *Frida: Viva La Vida*, a special event film dedicated to Frida Kahlo. On December 13, 2019, he released “ART FILM MUSIC” worldwide via the Sony Classical label—a celebratory 5-CD box set containing the complete collection of soundtracks he composed, conducted, and orchestrated for Nexo Digital’s “Great Art on Screen” (*La Grande Arte al Cinema*) series. These include scores for *Hitler vs. Picasso and the Others*, *Frida. Viva La Vida*, *Van Gogh: Between Wheat and Sky*, *Monet’s Water Lilies*, and *Gauguin in Tahiti*.
His music has also been featured in advertising campaigns for major brands—such as Alitalia and Bulgari—as well as in renowned television programs, including *Ulisse*, *Otto e Mezzo*, *I Dieci Comandamenti*, and *Ballarò*.
He has engaged in numerous high-profile and highly diverse artistic collaborations, including work with: Franz Di Cioccio, Roy Paci, the London Session Orchestra, Vardan Grigoryan, Masatsugu Shinozaki, Nadia Ratsimandresy, Giuliano Sangiorgi, Gino Paoli, Oliviero Toscani, Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi, Enzo Gragnaniello, Tony Esposito, Danilo Rossi, Dino Pedriali, Lino Capolicchio, Enzo Pietropaoli, Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti, Davide Toffolo, Simone Cristicchi, Taketo Gohara, Paolo Baldini, Vincenzo Vasi, Francesco Bearzatti, Bebo Ferra, Gabriele Mirabassi, Luca Aquino, Mylious Johnson, Gabriele Lazzarotti, John Lui, Vito Scavo, Tommaso Cerno, the Orchestra d’Archi Italiana, the Coro Polifonico di Ruda, Luisa Prandina, Gianfranco Grisi, Giuseppe Ettorre, Giuseppe Cacciola, Alessandro “Asso” Stefana, the Lelio Luttazzi Foundation, DJ Aladyn, Dargen D’Amico, Roberto Dellera, Emanuela Audisio, Didi Gnocchi, Marco Goldin, Nexo Digital, and 3D Produzioni.
Furthermore, since 2016, he has served as an Ambassador Artist for Yamaha Music Europe—a partnership formed because the company recognized an absolute uniqueness in his musical language, one that successfully marries a modern, international approach to composition with a distinctly Italian sensibility for beauty.
