Info for Meadows & Mirrors

“Philipp Schiepek achieves great tension with comparatively few notes. It’s about beauty of sound and sensuality of sound.” Matthias Wegner, Deutschlandfunk Kultur

No cell phone network, telephone cables across the countryside, a road through the forest where two vehicles can hardly meet. The cup of black coffee sits on the table in front of the yellow cottage, while your gaze wanders into the distance, where the sky is reflected in the green of the meadows.

Tranquillity, reflection and the rapid movement of the clouds influenced the Dinkelsbühl guitarist Philipp Schiepek for his program “Meadows and Mirrors”, which will be released on GLM-Music on 22 November 2024. In a space-consuming composition process, solo and trio pieces were created, which are interpreted on the classical nylon-string guitar.

In collaboration with the two established artists Henning Sieverts and Bastian Jütte, with whom Philipp Schiepek has a long friendship, an exciting program full of joyful playing is created.

With “Meadows and Mirrors”, Philipp Schiepek succeeds in continuing to weave the tapestry of ideas from the album “Versuch zu Träumen”, which was released in spring on Wooden Waggon Records.

With his ensembles, guitarist Philipp Schiepek has performed at the Berlin Jazz Festival, the Leipzig Jazz Days, the Bach Festival in Köthen, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, Sunset Paris and the Europe Sound Festival in Ankara, among others. Philipp Schiepek’s concerts are broadcast on Deutschlandfunk, Bayerischer Rundfunk, RBB, WDR, HR and NDR. A 60-minute live concert, which was recorded as part of the Jazzfest Berlin, was recently streamed on ARTE CONCERT.

Philipp Schiepek
The guitarist Philipp Schiepek has a vision: with his compositions and his playing he wants to develop a new, individual sound language. The musician and composer, who lives in Dinkelsbühl, is pursuing this goal with success. In recent years, the young artist has focused his work on performing his own compositions with his jazz projects and interpreting music for solo guitar.

With his ensembles he has performed at the Berlin Jazz Festival, the Leipzig Jazz Days, the Bach Festival Days in Köthen, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Prinzregententheater Munich, the Leverkusen Jazz Days and the Europe Sound Festival in Ankara, among others. Philipp Schiepek's concerts are broadcast on Deutschlandfunk, Bayerischer Rundfunk, or RBB, WDR and NDR. A 60-minute live concert recorded as part of the Berlin Jazz Festival was recently streamed on ARTE CONCERT.

Schiepek's debut album as bandleader and composer GOLEM DANCE with New York star saxophonist Seamus Blake was released in February 2019 on ENJA Records. In the same year he was awarded the Music Scholarship of the State Capital of Munich and received the "BMW Welt Young Artist Jazz Award" in 2020. Most recently, Schiepek won first prize in the Burghausen International Jazz Week competition with the Nils Kugelmann Trio.

On April 30, 2021, Schiepek and pianist Walter Lang released the duo album "Cathedral" on ACT Music. Schiepek's composition "BLAUE BÄUME" for two electric guitars was premiered in May 2022 together with Berlin guitarist Ronny Graupe. Further performances took place at the Schwere Reiter Munich, as part of the Konstanz Jazz Autumn and the Kollektivnights Berlin. At the Köthen Bach Festival

In 2022, Philipp Schiepek was a guest as a solo artist with the program “Saitenglück - Bach and inspired by Bach”. His new album “VERSACH ZU TRÄUMEN” (Wooden Waggon Records) will be released in February 2024 with Henning Sieverts on bass and Bastian Jütte on drums.

“Philipp Schiepek achieves great tension with comparatively few notes (…). It is (…) about the beauty of sound and the sensuality of sound.” (Matthias Wegner, Deutschlandfunk Kultur)

“He has found his own, always beautiful and exciting tone” (Süddeutsche Zeitung)
