Info for Harmonic Treasury

This recording delves into the world of 16th century printed music, highlighting the rise of music printing and its impact on the dissemination of works. Focusing on Renaissance songs and dances, the project reflects the emergence of a bourgeois public that was enthusiastic about polyphony. Personalities such as Pierre Attaingnant played a key role in the fusion of vocal and instrumental music and paved the way for new forms of musical creation. With a rich repertoire of French songs and Italian dances, this album shows the influence of oral tradition and improvisation. Pieces such as Doulce Mémoire and Pass'e mezzo show the virtuosity and creativity of the musicians of the time and at the same time illustrate the importance of cultural exchange between France and Italy.

La Quinta Pars
One of the particularities of La Quinta Pars lies in the cultural diversity of its five musicians, with varied artistic specializations and from the four corners of the globe.

Echoing Renaissance paintings depicting musicians performing with an eclectic mix of ancient instruments such as viols da gamba, recorders, violins and lutes, La Quinta Pars generously combines the sonic and expressive diversity of its instrumentarium. This variety of timbres highlights the independence of each line of the polyphony and the individuality of each artist, while nourishing a broad, ample and unitary sonic texture.

Through an interpretative approach seeking to enhance the aesthetic and human riches of Renaissance Europe, the ensemble offers an in-depth rereading of some of the countless printed and manuscript sources from this period that have come down to us.

Aware of the artistic limits of musical transmission through writing, restricted to a raw text that must be enriched by the performer according to his personality and informed technical criteria, the musicians of La Quinta Pars join the oral processes specific to a collective, spontaneous and imperfect interpretation.

Since its creation, the ensemble has performed in Lyon institutions such as the Chapelle de l’Hostel Dieu, the Auditorium of the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Auditorium of the ENS and the Auditorium of the Departmental Archives of Lyon. In the region, the ensemble regularly performs at festivals and associations of Early Music such as the festivals of Mars en Baroque, Besançon/Montfaucon, Buëch Durance, La Plaine au Coteau, Orgues et Patrimoine en Maurienne, les Orgues du Pays Roussillonais, Saint-Antoine l’Abbaye… In Europe, the ensemble has performed in the Czech Republic as part of the Musica ad Confluentem festival (České Budějovice), the St. Wenceslas Music Festival (Ostrava) and the musical evenings of the National Gallery (Prague).

In 2021, La Quinta Pars was the winner of the chamber music competition of the Sinfonia en Périgord festival.

In 2023, the ensemble graduated from the Master of Chamber Music at the CNSMD in Lyon and recorded its first CD in collaboration with Rolf Lislevand (Moose Studio, Norway).
