love & light celebrates the 10th anniversary of the inspirational girls choir iSing Silicon Valley, and features a diverse range of sacred music from Hildegard of Bingen to James MacMillan, new works by South Korean Guggenheim Fellow Sungji Hong, multi-disciplinary composer Kenyon Duncan, and many more.

iSing Silicon Valley, the inspirational Bay Area-based girls choir, emerged from the darkness of the pandemic to find love & light in this recording of sacred music both ancient and new, music that transcends and heals, with glorious sonorities by turns rapturous and haunting.

iSing’s spirit of diversity shines through on love & light. From O Sapientie, the ecstatic chant by Hildegard of Bingen to Sir James MacMillan’s gravity defying Os Mutorum, Lux Aeterna by South Korean Guggenheim Fellow Sungji Hong and chorea lucis (dance of light) by California-based multi-disciplinary composer Kenyon Duncan – and many more – every work on love & light recalls an emotion, instinct or value that came to feel significant, even urgent, during the separation imposed during the pandemic.

iSing
Founded in 2013 by Artistic Directors Jennah Delp-Somers and Shane Troll, iSing Silicon Valley brings together more than 300 young female singers in the Silicon Valley, offering them rigorous musical and vocal training while fostering artistry, community, and leadership.

In addition to presenting their own concerts to enthusiastic, sold-out houses in Silicon Valley, iSing was recently presented by Stanford Live and Festival Napa Valley. iSing has also now begun to achieve national and international recognition. Recent awards include the Grand Prize in the 8th International Robert Schumann Choral Competition (2018) and the Chorus America’s Dale Warland Singers Commission Award (2018). iSing has enjoyed collaborations with musical pioneer Meredith Monk and Vocal Ensemble, the world-renowned vocal ensembles Voces8 and Cappella SF, and other guest artists, including soprano Barbara Bonney, folk singer/songwriter Moira Smiley, and the Amaranth String Quartet.

iSing singers become friends for life, bonded by artistic experiences that challenge and shape their view of the world. Through singing and growing in iSing’s supportive community, they discover their vulnerability, uniqueness, and purpose. Their shared vision for a bright future in which the voices of these young women will be heard and valued, manifests itself in every rehearsal, every performance, and on iSing’s debut album Here I Stand.

Jennah Delp Somers
earned a Master of Music in Choral Conducting with distinction from Westminster Choir College and undergraduate degrees in Vocal Performance and Music Education from the University of Michigan, summa cum laude. She has prepared choirs for performances of major works, national tours, and the Spoleto Festival USA. As an active performer, Jennah has sung with the world’s leading orchestras, including: The New York Philharmonic, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Spoleto Festival Orchestra, The Lucerne Festival Orchestra, The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Staatskapelle Berlin. Most recently, Jennah sang in The Crossing, a Grammy-award winning professional choral ensemble that champions new repertoire and the Carmel Bach Festival Chorus. She can be heard on Flower of Beauty, a critically acclaimed recording by the Westminster Choir and Hesperus is Phosphorus by The Crossing. In 2012, Jennah made her Carnegie Hall conducting debut, conducting the Young People’s Chorus of New York City in concert. Jennah co-founded iSing in the summer of 2013. iSing is now a thriving organization that serves 300 young singers in Silicon Valley. Jennah loves her home in the Bay Area that she shares with her husband, Adam, daughter, Ada, and puppy, Ripley.
