Info for Max Greger - Vom Dixie zum Jazz (Remastered)

Max Greger is a saxophonist, bandleader, and composer. After the war, he initially toured American clubs in the US zone, playing with many jazz greats, including Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Stan Kenton, and Count Basie. In 1948, the Munich native founded his own combo, the Enzian Sextet, which later became an orchestra with twelve soloists.

Greger and his musicians quickly found themselves living out of suitcases, as the band rapidly became one of the most sought-after in all of Europe. With a brief interruption, Greger has been under contract with Polydor since 1954. In 1956, one of his pieces was titled "Außer Rand und Band" (Out of Control), a compilation of popular Bill Haley melodies, and in 1957, he had a hit with "Bongo Rock."
