Info for Verdi: Macbeth

This emerges as a fine performance, idiomatically conducted! Pavarotti and Ghiaurov are absolutely marvellous. Souliotis is a dramatic, vivid, exciting Lady Macbeth, her vocal resources, stretched to their limit, making her very much what Verdi had in mind. As well, Fischer-Dieskau, in a role not associated with him at all, is surprisingly idiomatic and characterful! This performance is really worth hearing.Decca does not include a libretto with this set, but libretti and English translations of this opera are easily obtainable elsewhere.
