Info for Strozzi: Sacri musicali affetti, Op. 5

World Premiere recording of the complete edition of the Sacri Musicali Affetti by Barbara Strozzi, a figure of great importance among the various women musicians of the seventeenth century. Her works went on printed editions for her to be recognized and appreciated as a composer, and not just as an instrumentalist or singer. She was on the Venetian intellectual scene thanks to her connection with the poet and playwright Giulio Strozzi (of whom Barbara is most likely an illegitimate daughter), a fundamental figure in the institution of the Venetian musical theater, and soon appreciated by musicians and writers of cultural circles from Venice. The Aurata Fonte ensemble, specialising in the Renaissance and Baroque repertoire, accompanies the sopranos Anna Simboli and Miho Kamiya with period instruments in the performance of this collection of sacred motets for solo voice where the composer's mastery and refinement is revealed by alternating theatrical and dramatic effects in the name of a marked vocal virtuosity. To be noted at one point the explicit mentioning of the great Claudio Monteverdi, placing by right her work in his musical wake.

Aurata Fonte:
Miho Kamiya, soprano
Perikli Pite, viola da gamba
Valeria Montanari, harpsichord
Giuseppe Monari, organ
Andrea Arrivabene, alto
Anna Simboli, soprano

Aurata Fonte Ensemble
It was born from valuable encounters and a continuous flow of experiences, friendships and periodic collaborations of its members with various early music groups and ensembles. It develops its activity by devoting itself to researching both ancient musical sources and their performance. An ensemble that experiments with musical experiences, finding joy and complicity along the way. The ensemble was formed in the best schools and academies: Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, Accademia Chigiana di Siena, Scuola Civica di Milano, Fondazione Cini di Venezia, Dipartimento di Musica Antica del Conservatorio di Parma, Dipartimento di Musica Antica del Conservatorio di Cesena. The members have studied with distinguished masters such as Roberto Gini, Wieland Kujken, Mauro Valli, Enrico Onofri, Luigi Mangiocavallo, Maurizio Naddeo, Gloria Banditelli, Masaaki Suzuki, Giovanbattista Columbro, Marcello Gatti and Barthold Kujken.

The ensemble has gained heterogeneous musical experience. In the Baroque repertoire and with the use of original instruments, they have had collaborations with specialised groups such as Europa Galante, Ensemble Concerto, I Barocchisti, Armonia delle Sfere, La Calandria, Ensemble "Terre d'Otranto, Albanian Baroque Ensemble, Harmonicus Concentus, Ensemble Cantar Lontano, Canalgrande, Ensemble Il Continuo, Cremona Baroque Orchestra, Lodoviciano Festival Orchestra, Bach Colegium Japan, Chamber and Symphony Orchestras. They have performed in many important halls around the world: Salle Playel in Paris, Teatro Real in Madrid, Palau della musica in Barcelona, Barbican centre in London, Albert Hall London, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, China, Japan, USA, Australia and New Zealand.
