SLAK (pronounced ‘Slack’), the super-fusion band featuring the best musicians from Sweden and Japan, will release their debut album ‘SLAK’ on Wednesday 29 April.
SLAK is a four-piece band comprising two musicians each from Sweden and Japan. From Sweden, the line-up includes Henrik Linder, the bassist from Dirty Loops, and Björn Arko, a saxophonist who is also a member of Billy Cobham’s band. From Japan, the line-up includes Akito Shirai, who works across genres and supports artists such as LiSA and T-SQUARE, as well as Senri Kawaguchi, who receives constant offers from artists and drum festivals not only in Japan but also abroad. The band’s name is formed from the initial letters of the four members’ surnames.
The debut tour in September 2025 was completely sold out. The current debut album was recorded in a recording studio in Sapporo immediately after the tour concluded. It consists mainly of original compositions by Björn Alko and Akito Shirai and is a work in which one can fully appreciate not only the outstanding playing technique of each individual, but also the band’s characteristic precise ensemble playing.
