Info for There Goes The Neighborhood

Sugarland, featuring Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, has teased a new EP is coming on August 9th called There Goes The Neighborhood. The project features four songs with a runtime of 13 minutes and will be released via Big Machine Label Group. It marks the first new solo music from the duo since their 2018 album, Bigger.

New EP ‘There Goes the Neighborhood' channels everything we've come to known and love about the duo's music and adds a little extra Soul, Blues & Southern style into the mix at the same time. Think Atlanta meets New Orleans meets Broadway for a touchstone as to where the Sugarland of 2024 currently resides. The throwaway Pop vibes of ‘All I Wanna Do' and ‘It Happens' have been built on top of with a mature, wise and yet still sharp and sarcastic view of life. There are four songs on the EP – the country music-leaning anti-gentrifcation song, a love song, a break up song and a funky little sexy times song – between them all there's a lovely breadth & diversity of sonics and messages that represent who Sugarland are in 2024.

The title track, ‘There Goes the Neighborhood,' kicks off the EP with a funky, Southern-infused critique of gentrification. Jennifer Nettles' powerhouse vocals, paired with Kristian Bush's gritty guitar work, bring the song to life as they lament the erasure of history with lines like “Shady Acres ain’t got no trees!” The track builds from funky verses to an anthemic, singalong chorus, showcasing Sugarland’s knack for combining humour, wisdom, and a touch of attitude in their music.

The EP continues to explore a range of emotions and sounds, from the sultry ‘Temporary Feeling' where Nettles pledges eternal love over a bass-heavy, bluesy groove, to the poignant ballad ‘Georgia is Yours,' which finds her channeling a mix of Southern diva and Broadway vibes as she sings about the heartache of not being able to move on after a breakup. ‘Get Your Hopes Up' rounds out the collection with a funky, pop-country vibe that recalls Sugarland's early hits like ‘It Happens' and ‘All I Wanna Do.' Bush’s 90s-inspired guitar riffs and Nettles’ sharp, playful vocals make it an instant earworm, full of the duo's trademark fun and energy. With themes of love, loss, and the passage of time, ‘There Goes the Neighborhood' is classic Sugarland, enhanced by the wisdom and experience that only comes with age, making it a must-listen for fans old and new. My only gripe is that there are only four songs in this collection, meaning that it is over before you've really got going, but then all the best artists leave them wanting more, right?

Since the band’s inception in 2002, Sugarland has sold nearly 10 million albums domestically, achieving high-mark sales with PLATINUM-certified THE INCREDIBLE MACHINE, 2X PLATINUM LOVE ON THE INSIDE and 3X PLATINUM TWICE THE SPEED OF LIFE as well as ENJOY THE RIDE. Their most popular songs include PLATINUM-certified “All I Want to Do” and “Stay,” 2X PLATINUM “Stuck Like Glue” as well as GOLD-certified “Baby Girl,” “It Happens,” “Settlin’,” “Something More” and “Want To.” Sugarland has also earned seven No. 1 singles to date and amassed over 600 million on-demand streams. Their critical and mainstream appeal have been magnified with industry accolades – five consecutive CMA Awards for Vocal Duo of the Year (2007-2011), five ACM Awards (including Song of the Year and Single of the Year) and GRAMMY® Awards for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best Country Song for “Stay.”

The musical debuted at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, starring Radney Foster and Zach Seabaugh, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution called Kristian’s songs “magnificent,” with a “power that cannot be discounted.”

Kristian teamed with BBR Music Group labelmate Lindsay Ell to produce her debut album, The Project, debuting #1 on Billboard’s country album charts. The Project was named Billboard Magazine’s #1 Critic’s Choice Country Album for 2017 and produced Lindsay’s’ first #1 song Criminal (*Mediabase Canada).

Halfway through 2018, Sugarland release their sixth studio album BIGGER, that included the hit Babe, written by Pat Monahan and Taylor Swift. Babe became one of the Top 75 Most Played Songs of 2018.

On top of staying busy with producing, performing and writing, he has a podcast out via Bobby Bones’ iHeart Media’s Nashville Podcast Network called Geeking Out and co-wrote the musical Troubadour which became Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre’s biggest ticket seller for 2017.

In 2019, Kristian started a new rock band with Benji Shanks and his brother Brandon, called Dark Water and released their debut self-titled album. And in 2020, during the COVID pandemic, brought Billy Pilgrim into the the digital age by re-releasing In the Time Machine to the DSPs as well as two pre-internet-albums, Words Like Numbers and St. Christopher’s Crossings.
