Info for Duettango

The duo of Duettango, Filippo Arlia and Cesare Chiacchiaretta, pays tribute to Argentinian composer, bandoneon player, and arranger Astor Piazzolla with these twelve tracks. Piazzolla revolutionized the traditional tango into a new style termed 'nuevo tango', incorporating elements from jazz and classical music.

Duettango are joined by Fernando Suarez Paz on the violin, and his daughter Ceckilia Suarez Paz on vocals.

When Giulio Cesare asked me to write an introductory note for this album, I instantly thought of how Duettango was born. It came about by chance, out of a personal ambition in 2010 at the Nocera Terinese, between two piano lessons in the rooms of the Conservatory. My idea was to combine two instruments which at first sight have very little in common, such as the piano and the bandoneon. Up until Astor Piazzolla’s creation, these have always been elements of a sextet or a quartet, where the piano sadly plays a secondary part while the bandoneon constantly and exclusively converses with the violin. This recording wishes to prove that the piano and the bandoneon can interact splendidly, and if it is necessary they can have a dialogue with the violin or the voice without giving up their virtuosity and an important musical presence. I end this with two thoughts that will always follow me whenever I listen to this album: the first is an homage to Piazzolla, a composer to whom my career as a pianist and musician already owes a lot in many ways; the second is for Fernando Suarez Paz, because being able to play Escualo with the violinist to whom Astor dedicated these extraordinary pages was one of the most meaningful moments of my life. Duettango
was founded in 2008 thanks to the intuition of the pianist and conductor Filippo Arlia, Director of the Higher Institute of Musical Studies "PI Tchaikovsky" in Nocera Terinese and Principal Conductor of the Philharmonic Calabria.

The duo sees the bandoneon Cesare Chiacchiaretta, considered by industry critics as one of the best performers in the world of literature of this tool.

Duettango held over two hundred live in Europe and America, treading historical prestigious stages such as Scarlatti room area of Naples, the St. Katherine Concert Hall in Vilnius, the Castelfidardo International Festival. The idea of the duo is to combine two tools at first sight for anything similar like the piano and bandoneon, which up to now in the Astor Piazzolla literature have always been two elements of a sextet or at least a quartet where the piano recited sadly the part of a noble actor and bandoneon conversed in a constant manner only and exclusively with the violin.

In 2015 Duettango debuted at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York, gaining a real standing ovation from the American public. In 2016 he starred in the premiere in Italy of "Maria de Buenos Aires" by Astor Piazzolla. In 2017 the duo released the album "Duettango" for Fonè Records, with the special participation of Fernando Suarez Paz, the famous violinist "Quinteto Nuevo Tango" by Piazzolla.
