Info for Mosaïque

THE MOSAÏQUE PROJECT features a musical suite of piano quartets commissioned by Ensemble Made In Canada. Inspired by the diversity and richness of Canada’s culture and geography, each of these 14 compositions is associated with a specific region of Canada and was created by one of our Mosaïque composers, who come from various musical backgrounds, including classical, jazz, folk, First Nations and singer-songwriter traditions.

Since its premiere at the Festival of the Sound in Parry Sound on July 26, 2018, we have traveled to communities of all sizes in every Canadian province and territory to share the Mosaïque Project. At each performance, we encouraged audiences to participate by drawing on tiles while they listened, as a way of opening their ears and engaging in the creative process. The result has been astounding, and now we have a collection of art from audiences across the country, inspired by these piano quartets.

Throughout our travels, we have gained new perspectives by seeing firsthand the truly awesome nature and culture of our country, which inspired the Mosaïque composers. We never imagined the transformation we experienced, working so closely with local artists, teachers, and musiclovers across Canada. As musicians, we feel fortunate to have performed these works over 50 times in the course of a year, allowing us to discover each one intimately as they evolved over time. Now that this music is part of the fabric of our ensemble, we are so excited to share this recording and our journey of discovery with you.
