Info for Young And Foolish

Bandleader, arranger and trumpeter Florian Raepke and his big band meet singer Charlotte Illinger on “Young And Foolish”. Having already appeared as a guest on Florian Raepke's first big band album “The Very Thought Of You” (2021), Charlotte Illinger now leads through this gala of eleven well-known and often interpreted melodies from the great American songbook, which shine fresher than ever between swinging elegance and refined groove. Almost 30 musicians are involved: in addition to Raepke and Illinger and the perfect rhythm section of Niklas Walter (drums), Caris Hermes (bass) and Jerry Lu (piano), there are 14 woodwind and brass players, a four-piece string quartet and other instruments such as percussion, clarinet, oboe and harp.

Charlotte Illinger finds the right tone for every mood and moves effortlessly between singing, tone poem and scat, always impressing with the sophistication of the large ensemble in providing variance and nuances. Numerous soloistic highlights can be discovered here, which only really shine thanks to the pointed, breathtakingly precise wind sections. Nevertheless, there are passages where only the rhythm trio shines. “Young And Foolish” is a great listening pleasure, playful, full of details and twists and yet breathtakingly ‘on point’.
