Info for Mozart: Mass in C Minor, K. 427 "Great" (Reconstr. H. Eder) [Live]

Marc Minkowski and Les Musiciens du Louvre present a new recording of Mozart’s Mass in C Minor, the iconic opening Kyrie of which is among the most cherished religious music ever written. Mozart performed parts of the Mass in 1783, but the score remained unfinished, making the use of a scholarly edition necessary for a complete performance. Despite its unfinished state, Mozart’s Mass in C Minor has gained popularity and now enjoys a place in the choral core repertory. For this recording, made in connection to live performances, Minkowski has chosen Helmut Eder’s 1985 edition for the Neue Mozart-Ausgabe. He performs it in a chamber-like setting with his regular ensemble Les Musiciens du Louvre, a small ripieno choir and four outstanding soloists: Ana Maria Labin, Ambroisine Bré, Stanislas de Barbeyrac and Norman Patzke. Since its foundation in 1982, and under the baton of its founder and musical director Marc Minkowski, Les Musiciens du Louvre have developed into one of the world’s best period-instrument ensembles, with a vast discography. This recording marks their PENTATONE debut.

Les Musiciens du Louvre
Founded in 1982 by Marc Minkowski, Les Musiciens du Louvre breathes new life into the repertoires of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras, performed on period instruments. Over the past thirty years, the Orchestra drew attention with its reinterpretations of the works of Handel, Purcell and Rameau, but also Haydn and Mozart and more recently Bach and Schubert. It is also well known for its performances of nineteenth-century French music: Berlioz (Les Nuits d’été, Harold en Italie), Bizet (L’Arlésienne), Massenet (Cendrillon), etc.

Among there most successful opera productions are Haendel's Alcina at the Wiener Staatsoper, Haendel's Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno at the Staatsoper Berlin, Così fan tutte at the Salzburg Festival, Rameau's Platée and Gluck's Alceste at the Opéra national de Paris, Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice at the Mozartwoche in Salzburg, Mozart's Idomeneo at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, at the Mozartwoche Salzburg and at the Musikfest Bremen, Rameau's Les Boréades at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence.

Based in Grenoble since 1996, supported by the Conseil Général de l’Isère, the Région Rhône-Alpes and the French Ministry of Culture and Communication (DRAC Rhône-Alpes), the Musiciens du Louvre Grenoble has an extensive outreach and educational programme to promote classical music in the Rhône-Alpes region.
