The two canticles for Anglican Evensong, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, are presented here in diverse settings by American composers including Craig Phillips, Roland Martin, Leo Sowerby, Gerald Near, Howard Helvey and Harold Friedell. Also included are first recordings of Craig Phillips’ Jubilate Deo and Larry King’s A Canticle of Praise. The Cathedral Choir and Schola of St. Philip in Atlanta, Georgia, are accompanied by the Cathedral’s large Aeolian-Skinner organ Opus 1399 and brass from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Dale Adelmann was named Canon for Music at the Cathedral of St. Philip in 2009, having served previously as director of music of All Saints’, Beverly Hills; St. Paul’s Cathedral, Buffalo; and the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus.
