Info for Daydream
Clem Beatz certainly knows how to brighten a day, so I have chosen to feature one of his songs today, which is the title track of his newly released EP Daydream. The album, released with DMM Recordings, feature six super infectious tracks from the French beatmaker.
Clem Beatz has changed. A trip to Australia, a few meetings and new influences have urged him to transform his musical universe in the span of two years. With “Daydream”, he confirms his will to explore a more aerial electronic music, free from the hip-hop strings which marked his first days as a producer.
His project has notably bloomed at the other end of the world in Australia, where Clem Beatz spent seven months last year. Had he stayed in France his music would undoubtedly have been different. Back home with his titles halfway between chillwave, hip-hop and house, he intends to convert his homeland to this particular universe in the wake of Flume, FKJ, Fakear or Empire of The Sun.
Born in Hyères he first developed a passion for the art of sampling with references such as Pete Rock, 9th Wonders, Evidence or even J. Dilla. And if he has not totally renounced his musical past (as Lucioles the title featuring the rapper Flo The Kid testifies), his productions started to change two years ago. His former EP “Trouble in Paradise” released in February last year marked the transition between two universes, at a time when Clem Beatz was looking for his style which he did find with “Daydream”.
When on stage the producer insists on playing instruments: the guitar he is been playing ever since his first rock bands when he was 13, synthesizers and drum pads as well. A wish to make an EP cut to be deconstructed, interpreted again and performed, visual.
