Info for Mozart: The Late Viennese Violin Sonatas

Violinist by profession, the Japanese-born Viennese musician Tomoko Mayeda also learned to play the piano from the age of four. Her teacher and mentor Paul Badura-Skoda often took the time to teach her at the piano in addition to his support as a pianistic accompanist at countless concerts and a joint album recording. Mayeda had for a long time cherished the wish of being able to accompany herself at the piano, which she was finally able to realize during the pandemic through technical refinements: First, Mayeda recorded the piano part, to which the violin was then recorded in a second recording session. Since the otherwise usual and necessary agreements regarding musical features are omitted the result is Tomoko Mayeda "100%", an uncompromising interpretation of W. A. Mozart's late Viennese violin sonatas (B-flat major, K. 454; E-flat major, K. 481; A major, K. 526).

Tomoko Mayeda, violin, piano

Tomoko Mayeda was born in Kamakura, Japan. She started playing Violin at age 3 and Piano at the age of 4. She studied music at Toko- Gakuan University and also graduated from Robert- Schumann music academy in Düsseldorf. Tomoko obtained the diploma of Carl- Nielsen international Violin Concert. In 1995 Mayeda was awarded an especial Prize of Tibor Varga in Sion.

She played in Düsseldorf concert hall at 1996 with the provincial government orchestra of Düsseldorf under the direction of Günter Neidlinger the M. Buch’s Violin Concerto. After that she gained in the press very good reviews. At 1998 Tomoko participated in graduate recital at Robert Schumann music academy and she passed with distinction.

In addition to her family, she began again in 2006 to play in a number of concerts, for example, a concert series “musical gift” in Japan, which this year will be performed again for 5th time and has been specially launched for Tomoko.

In Vienna, Austria, she performed with the significant, contemporary pianist Paul Badura-Skoda. Summer 2009, she was invited to Eurochestries Festival.

She played in Slovakia, Poland and Hungary with the Vienna’s Kammer- Jugend Orchestra under the direction of Yuri Kishimoto, the Tchaikovsky violin concerto. Mayeda studied with the professor Erika Ozeki, Shizuko Ishii, Michael Gaiser, Koji Toyoda, Tibor Varga and Erich Höbarth. She has since given concerts in Geneva, Düsseldorf, Milan, Vienna, Tokyo, Yokohama and Zug. At 2007 she recorded a DVD with Paul Badura-Skoda. Tomoko Mayeda plays on the copy of a violin Antonio Stradivarius 1709, which was built by Andreas Hellinge in Geneva in 2009.
