"old sun, new horizon", the fourth album by Zurich singer-songwriter Long Tall Jefferson, shows a deep love for life in all its spectrum: from triumphantly bright yellow to deep dark blue. From the monotony of everyday life to the cosmic spectacle that opens up when you gain a bit of perspective now and then. It is a hopeful album that oscillates between indie folk and lo-fi pop, chock-full of catchy melodies and beautiful moments of melancholy. “We started recording shortly after the birth of my second daughter. Everything was overwhelming at the time. Music was just one aspect of many in my life. But it allowed me these short breaks in which I could just be an artist and devote myself to my art, no matter what was happening at home. ” – Long Tall JeffersonFor the production of “old sun, new horizon”, Long Tall Jefferson was looking for a raw, honest sound and brought his long-time friend and multi-instrumentalist Mario Hänni on board as co-producer. In order to emulate the lightness and vulnerability of demo recordings, they always recorded two instruments at the same time: first two guitars, then bass and drums, later further overdubs. This left plenty of room for happy coincidences and improvisation. With a collection of 20 recordings they went to Manuel Egger's studio, where they refined them together and reduced them to the 11 songs that can now be heard on the album. “For me, the 'old sun' stands for something unchanging that burns within me: my love of songwriting, of music, my soul, this endless fascination for life. And the 'new horizon' is all the wonderful things that surround me and challenge me: new perspectives, change. “ – Long Tall JeffersonThis album is like a collection of postcards, messages written with a light pen, casual and intimate in tone. Playful, occasionally surreal or even cryptic, but always underpinned by a strong emotion: love, grief, hope, melancholy, time, the creative process, constant growth. A hall of mirrors that invites you to reflect the themes in the songs with your own. And suddenly your thoughts revolve around infinity.

Long Tall Jefferson's fourth album "old sun, new horizon" (2025) is the culmination of a long journey that has taken him through numerous countries and always a little closer to himself. Mature and at ease with himself, the thirtysomething sings the stories of his new life as a family man, in whom the love for music and the world burns brighter than ever.
It all began with the lo-fi folk debut album "I Want My Honey Back" (2016) that sent him touring all across Europe. Long Tall Jefferson's second album "Lucky Guy" (2018), which came with somewhat fuller arrangements, received a lot of praise from critics. The Neue Zürcher Zeitung called him "a magician of fine details" and over 50 radio stations played his songs.
On "Cloud Folk" (2020), Long Tall Jefferson reinvented himself and threw the authenticity gauntlet of Americana and singer/songwriter into the fire. With autotune, synthesizer and drum machine, he wrapped his songs in a new shimmering dress and delighted audiences and critics alike.
Appreciated for his moving performances, Long Tall Jefferson has played over 400 concerts, including festivals such as The Great Escape (UK), Eurosonic (NL), Waves Vienna (AT), Gurtenfestival (CH) or Zurich Openair (CH) and shared the stage with artists such as Big Thief, Kevin Morby or Haley Heynderickx.
Simon Borer (*1988), the man behind Long Tall Jefferson, lives with his family in Zurich. In addition to his main project, he plays in the instrumental trio "Löwenzahnhonig" with Fai Baba and Paul Märki, runs the songwriting podcast "Songs und so" with Daniela Weinmann and acts as an important central figure in the musicians collective "Red Brick Records".
