Info for Portals
Two artists in the dance music scene who need little in the way of introductions are Sub Focus and Wilkinson. Over the years they have dominated the drum and bass community with smash singles like “Take It Up,” “Take You Higher,” and “Tidal Wave” to further cement their legacy among the greats. Today, they made it clear they’re ready to take the next step in their careers with a collaborative album dubbed Portals.
In 2020, drum & bass titans Sub Focus and Wilkinson teamed up for three smash hit singles: club banger "Illuminate," the old-school breakbeat-infused "Just Hold On," and future classic "Air I Breathe," released just last month. Fans were already enamored by those three mega-collaborations, but now they'll be getting even more new music from the all-star duo, as Sub Focus and Wilkinson have just announced their new forthcoming album, Portals.
The new record will feature all three previously released singles, plus eight other tracks that expand on the sound that fans have come to know each artist for. Featuring live instrumentation from a multitude of talented artists as well as experimentation with different styles and tempos, Portals is set to serve as a showcase of the depth and sonic breadth of Sub Focus and Wilkinson's talents.
"It’s all pretty mad. We started the album way before all of this happened, but when we were finishing it we were doing everything remotely, including vocal sessions. We met up the other day for the first time in six or seven months… It has been a super tough time for everybody, especially in the music & events industries, but we are thankful it has given us the time to finish this project." (Sub Focus)
"Although the circumstances are bad, I did feel like I was due a break from touring. It’s taken its toll on me mentally and physically, I think a few of us felt like that. Six months have passed though now and I’m dying to get back to touring again, it’s getting annoying now." (Wilkinson)
Sub Focus & Wilkinson
Sub Focus & Wilkinson
One of D&B’s true pioneers, Sub Focus is best known for his state-of-the-art live shows and diverse back-catalogue, including ‘Tidal Wave’ and ‘Rock It’. A regular at the likes of Creamfields, SW4 and a resident at Amnesia Ibiza, he has twice headlined and sold out Brixton’s iconic O2 Academy. Sub Focus opened the year with his single ‘Desire’, a collaboration with fellow UK artist Dimension that spent a number of weeks on the BBC Radio 1 A-list and has gone on to pick up over 50 million global streams. His July double-single release of ‘Solar System’ and ‘Siren’ saw Sub Focus receive widespread support and close off his current series of releases. On the gig front, he has spent the summer performing at the likes of Glastonbury (three sets which included Arcadia), Love Saves The Day and Dour Festival.
Wilkinson has established his place as one of electronic music’s top talents. The London artist is best known for 2013 smash ‘Afterglow’, a track that topped the UK Dance charts and has amassed 170 million global streams. Four years later, he again hit #1 on the UK Dance charts, this time with sophomore album Hypnotic. Wilkinson has also built a stellar reputation around his live performances with his band, selling out the iconic Brixton Academy, the Roundhouse, four UK tours and headlining festival stages around the globe that including SW4, Reading & Leeds Festival and Creamfields. This continued into 2019 with performances at Glastonbury, EDC Las Vegas, and the BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend this summer, as well as an Ibiza residency.
