A new GENUIN album featuring the Leopold Mozart Quartet is dedicated to the string quartet works of composer Heinz Winbeck, who died in 2019. The Augsburg ensemble, made of four musicians who are active throughout Germany, is known for its high artistic quality, demanding programming, and enormous versatility. Winbeck's three string quartets were written in a period of only five years, between 1979 and 1984, and are the expression of a mature composer at the height of his powers. An unconditional will characterizes Winbeck's music to expressivity and is particularly evident in the interpretation by the Leopold Mozart Quartet: Expansive lines, the use of sparse material, and the search for extreme states – gripping, new chamber music!

Leopold Mozart Quartett

The Leopold Mozart Quartet
was founded in 2005 by musicians of the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra and is identified with high artistry, challenging programming and tremendous versatility Classical music and New Music as well as jazz, world music and crossover genres feature in their concerts and studio production programs. The LMQ regularly performs as part of the chamber recital series of the Augsburg State Theater as well as at festivals and concert series in Germany and abroad.

Dace Salmina-Fritzen
was born in Latvia in 1979. She studied at the state music conservatories in Riga and Nuremberg-Augsburg. Various chamber music courses rounded off her education. She has won prizes at various competitions and was a scholarship recipient of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation.

After gaining experience in various orchestras during her studies (including the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, internship with the Augsburg Philharmonic), upon completing her studies she initially received a temporary contract with the Munich Philharmonic. Since 2008 she has been a permanent member of the first violin section of the Augsburg Philharmonic.

Živa Ciglenečki
Slovenian violinist Živa Ciglenečki has won several prizes at national and international competitions both as a soloist and as a member of the Tempo giusto piano trio. She was a chamber music partner with the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation’s “Live music now Salzburg.”

After studies at the Mozarteum University Salzburg (Igor Ozim) and her masters with a chamber music concentration at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Chia Chou, Ida Bieler), she taught at the Ljubljana Music and Ballet Conservatory. She has lived in Augsburg since the 2014/15 season and is a member of the Augsburg Philharmonic.

Christian Döring
won First Prize at the International Bach Competition in Leipzig when he was only twelve. During his studies with Eberhard Feltz at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin, he worked intensively on performing string quartets as a member of the Chagall-Quartet.

He studied chamber music with Friedemann Weigle (Petersen-Quartet) and Eberhard Feltz and attended numerous chamber music courses (including at Oberstdorfer Musiksommer and Schubertiade Schwarzenberg). From 2004 to 2014 he was a violinist with the Augsburg Philharmonic and has been principal violist with them since 2015.

Johannes Gutfleisch
studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln and the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and pursued further studies with, among others, Harvey Shapiro, the Amadeus-Quartet and the Petersen-Quartet. He has been assistant principal (3rd chair, Vorspieler) with the Augsburg Philharmonic since 2001 and regularly performs with various orchestras and ensembles. He appears with various chamber music ensembles at festivals throughout Germany. In 2009 he initiated the “Zukunftsmusik” concert series, which is now a permanent part of the repertoire of the Augsburg State Theater.
