Info for Beethoven Piano Trios

Recreating the tonal language of a composer and the essence of an entire age is the goal of the young Trio Alterna, which has recorded an album of piano trios by Ludwig van Beethoven on GENUIN that includes the composer's magnificent "Ghost Trio". Takahiko Sakamaki (piano), Anna Dmitrieva (violin), and Amarilis Dueñas CastAn (cello) are all distinguished representatives of their generation in the field of historical performance practice. The trio, which began its career by winning a prize at the International Competition "Beethoven in his Time" in 2020, not only performs on period instruments but also consults period sources and manuscripts of the works being performed for its interpretations.

Anna Dmitrieva, violin
Amarilis Dueñas, violoncello
Takahiko Sakamaki, fortepiano

Trio Alterna
The impetus for founding the Cologne-based Trio Alterna came from the Siegburg Beethoven Competition. All three musicians have extensive experience with both modern instruments and early music. They are looking forward to presenting their repertoire in classical and romantic music on historical instruments as well.

Anna Dmitrieva
studied baroque violin (Richard Gwilt), baroque ensemble (Anthony Spiri and Harald Schoneweg) at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, and historical performance practice at the Mozarteum Salzburg (Reinhard Goebel). She performs internationally with renowned ensembles and is a passionate chamber musician: as a member of the Ludus Trio, she has given guest performances at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, among others; with her ensemble Ludus Instrumentalis, she has performed at Europe's most important festivals, including the Bach Festival in Leipzig and the Sanssouci Festival in Potsdam.

Amarilis Dueñas
studies modern and baroque cello as well as viola da gamba at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with Maria Kliegel and Rainer Zipperling. As a prize-winner of various competitions, including the Pau Casals International Award, Amarilis performs throughout Europe. Her passion for historical performance practice is reflected in several recordings as a continuo player as well as a soloist on her CD "Soliloqvies" (2020).

Takahiko Sakamaki
studies fortepiano as his main subject at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with Gerald Hambitzer. His more than 10 years of experience on the clavichord, harpsichord and fortepiano allow him a special versatility and flexibility in the use of the different instruments. Numerous awards and performances in Japan and Europe testify to his high artistic qualities.

Interpreting music from the baroque period to the present on the appropriate instruments and overcoming the boundaries between old and modern instruments - these ideas inspire the work of Trio Alterna.
