Info for Russie Éternelle

To celebrate their 20th anniversary the Geca brass (Grand Ensemble de Cuivres d’Alsace) pays a tribute to the Russian romantic music on the new release Russie Éternelle. Miguel Etchegoncleay and Jean-François Taillard realized adaptations.

A formative event in the development of the music in Russia was the foundation of the Philharmonic Society St. Petersburg in the early 19th century. It made the most important works of the contemporary European repertoire available in Russia – the works were rarely known. The composers Tchaikovsky and Borodin – members of the national Russian group “The Five” – created a fine synthesis between western and Russian traditions. The sentimental but at the same time uneasy nature of these romantic compositions, their infinite sensitivity, and the rich and divers shaped orchestrations opened the way to the modern Russian music of Shostakovich and Stravinsky, which can both be heard on this recording as well.
