Gothenburg-based musician and composer Ida Gillner has spent the past ten years working to highlight and set music to poetry by women who wrote in Yiddish before the II World War. In 2022, the duo Shtoltse lider was formed together with Livet Nord, and now they are releasing their first joint album, Queen of Word – A Tribute to Anna Margolin.
In their musical interpretations of New York based poet Anna Margolin (1887–1952), Shtoltse lider bring a 100-year-old poetic treasure straight into the present day—creating a sound that moves, unsettles, and breathes new life into a language and a voice that faced resistance in its own time, yet was imbued with courage, artistic vision, and a longing for liberation.
