Zehn Jahre, nachdem Post Malone sein Debüt-Mixtape „August 26th“ veröffentlicht hatte, hat der Superstar das Album nun zum ersten Mal überhaupt zugänglich gemacht.
„August 26th“ erschien ursprünglich im Mai 2016 und folgte auf die Veröffentlichung von Malones Durchbruchssingle „White Iverson“. Das Album war sein erstes in voller Länge und bot einen Vorgeschmack auf die Stilrichtungen, die Posty an die Spitze von Rock, Pop, Hip-Hop und Country katapultieren sollten.
Der Titel „August 26th“ bezieht sich auf das geplante Veröffentlichungsdatum von Malones Debüt-Studioalbum „Stoney“. Während dieses Projekt verschoben wurde und schließlich am 9. Dezember desselben Jahres erschien, ist „August 26th“ eine Zusammenfassung der Momente, bevor Post Malone zum weltweiten Superstar wurde.
„August 26th“ wurde von Posts engem Mitstreiter FKi 1st als Executive Producer betreut, der auch einen Teil der Beats auf dem Album beisteuerte und sogar mit einem Gastvers bei „God Damn“ zu hören ist. Malone schreibt FKi zu, maßgeblich zu seiner Entwicklung beigetragen zu haben.
In einem Interview mit Vibe aus dem Jahr 2016 erklärte Posty: „Nun, (FKi) 1st hat mir wirklich die Augen geöffnet, was … wie alles funktioniert, wie Verträge laufen und wie der ganze Ablauf ist. Er war sozusagen der erste Produzent, mit dem ich zusammengearbeitet habe, als ich nach L.A. kam. Er hat mir wirklich viele Tricks beim Produzieren beigebracht und ein paar krasse Beats für mich gemacht. Wir haben eine Freundschaft aufgebaut und weiter zusammengearbeitet. Jetzt versuchen wir einfach, coole Musik zu machen und unser Leben auf die Reihe zu kriegen.“
