Info zu Beautiful Garbage (20th Anniversary Edition Remaster)

GARBAGE feiern den 20 jährigen Geburtstag ihres dritten Studioalbums Beautiful Garbage. Dies tun sie - konsequenterweise - weil sie sowohl beim Debüt wie auch dem zweiten Album diesen Geburtstag feierten. Nach Abwägen der Möglichkeiten des Handelns verzichte ich auf eine klassische Bewertung des Albums, sondern es wird "lediglich" über das Format der Rezension vorgestellt.

GARBAGE ist eine große Band. Bandmitglied Butch Vig muss sich glücklich schätzen, dass er 1991 einer Band namens NIRVANA aus Seatle das Album Nevermind produzierte. Back in the Days nahm ich als Konsument von MTV/VIVA/VIVA2 GARBAGE zweifellos wahr in den 1990ern, aber Fan wurde ich nicht. Im Hinterkopf verankert blieb sicherlich noch die Titelsong für einen 007-Film (The World Is Not Enough), natürlich auch die laszive Stimme Shirley Mansons.

Die Jubiläumsausgabe umfasst das neu abgemischte Ursprungsalbum, dazu gesellen sich Liveversion, Cover, B-Seiten, Demosongs, alternative Versionen und Remixe. Bei Cover/Liveversionen sind es Wild Horses (The Rolling Stones) und Pride In The Name Of Love (U2). Viele Stunden Musik warten auf einen.

Unter dem Ausgangspunkt, dass mir das Originalalbum unbekannt ist, hörte ich mir thebeuatifulgarbage an. Ja, die Musik klingt zeitlos, es ist kein Retrogefühl, sondern es könnte auch von einer Band stammen, die gerade die Bühnen der Welt erobern können. Parade ist das Lied, was mir persönlich am besten gefällt. Die ganzen Remixe sind schon speziell. Vor allen Dingen, wenn vom gleichen Lied dann die Mixvarianten direkt aufeinanderfolgen. Das ist dann schon sehr für Liebhaber. Vom erwähnten Lied Parade gab es nur einen Remix, von daher blieb es mir auch dadurch positiv in Erinnerung.

Das beautifulgarbage richtet sich also vorrangig an Fans der Band GARBAGE. Allerdings, unter dem Eindruck der zeitlosen Komposition und Sounds, ist das remasterte Album auch für Neugierige empfehlenswert.

Garbage
were formed in Madison, Wisconsin in 1994 out of what was a studio project. The band consists of Butch Vig, Steve Marker and Duke Erikson, all American producers plus Scottish singer Shirley Manson. Since their formation the band have shifted over 14,000,000 albums worldwide.

The bands self-titled debut was released in 1995 and was soon getting rave reviews in the press, so much so that MTV named them as best Breakthrough artist at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 1996.

They released their second album Version 2.0 in 1998 and went on another 18 month worldwide tour. Version 2.0 finished 1998 as the 8th best selling album of the year (Worldwide). In 1999 the band was picked to record the theme tune to the 19th James Bond film The World Is Not Enough.

In 2001 the band issued beautifulgarbage, the sound was very different to the previous 2 records which helped account for poorer sales than the previous two. However it did introduce the band to some new fans around the world.

The band returned in 2003 with the release of Bleed Like Me. This album should have sold way more than it did. It has some awesome tracks on it such as Metal Heart and the title track itself. Nearing the end of the 2005 tour the band took a break.

In 2007 the band issued a “best of” album called Absolute Garbage which featured 2 new tracks Tell Me Where It Hurts and a Garbage remix of It’s all over but the Crying.

In 2011 the band returned with a cover of U2’s Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses. 2012 however is where all the action will be. They return with their 5th studio album, release a new single and head out on tour once again.
