Die sechs Suiten für Violoncello solo werden häufig als Bachs größte Meisterwerke angesehen und sind ein Höhepunkt des barocken Cellorepertoires. Dieses neue Album mit Bachs kompletten Cellosuiten hat die Besonderheit, dass es mit zwei verschiedenen historischen Celli eingespielt wurde, darunter ein seltenes fünfsaitiges Instrument aus dem 17.

William Skeen ist einer der führenden Barockcellisten der Welt. Er ist Solocellist des Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, der Voices of Music und war fast zwei Jahrzehnte lang Solocellist der American Bach Soloists. Er ist Gründungsmitglied des New Esterházy Quartetts, des Cantata Collective und von La Monica. Skeen unterrichtete zwei Jahrzehnte lang Barockcello und Viola da Gamba an der University of Southern California. Skeen hat zwei GRAMMY®-Nominierungen für frühere Alben erhalten. Er tritt weiterhin regelmäßig mit großen Orchestern und Barockgruppen auf der ganzen Welt auf.

Die in San Francisco ansässige Plattenproduzentin Lolly Lewis gründete 1980 ihre Produktionsfirma Transparent Recordings. Zu den bemerkenswerten Projekten gehören Anthony Davis' Oper Tania, eine Ersteinspielung von Orchestermusik der Harlem-Renaissance-Komponistin Florence Price mit dem Women's Philharmonic Orchestra und eine Berlioz-Serie mit dem San Diego Symphony Orchestra. In den letzten Jahren hat sich Frau Lewis besonders auf die Aufführung von historischen Instrumenten konzentriert und sechs Alben mit dem New Esterházy Quartet produziert. Diese neue Veröffentlichung der Sechs Cello-Suiten wurde von der berühmten, mehrfach mit dem GRAMMY® ausgezeichneten Tontechnikerin Leslie Ann Jones bei Skywalker Sound in Marin County, Kalifornien, aufgenommen. William Skeen
violoncello and viola da gamba, regularly performs with American Bach Soloists, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Musica Angelica, El Mundo, and Galanterie. He also has appeared as solo cellist with the Los Angeles, Portland and Seattle baroque orchestras. William is frequently sought-after as a continuo cellist at major American opera houses such as Chicago Opera, Atlanta Opera and San Diego Opera.

A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Southern California, William has gone on to join the faculty at U.S.C. where he has taught baroque cello and viola da gamba since 2000. William has recorded for Koch, Delos, BIS, Hannsler, Sono Luminus, and Pandore records. He makes his home near San Francisco, where he enjoys spending quality time with his wife Ondine, and two children, Talia and Liam.
