Finale: With Sinfonia Concertante, Symphony No. 39 & Così Fan Tutte Overture, violinist Julien Chauvin, Amihai Grosz, viola, and Le Concert de la Loge conclude their Simply Mozart series, which they dedicated to the composer's last three symphonies. The result is impressive.
The lively recorded performance lasts exactly one hour and 44 seconds. The overture from Cosi fan tutte greets us cheerfully before the first movement of the Sinfonia concertante in E flat major begins. It is a finely differentiated performance that delights the ears. The violin runs are lively and breathy, the cello interjections warm and powerful without dominating, and the interplay of the voices is formidable, and not only in this first movement.
The entire album presents excerpts from Mozart's late works in the highest quality. This also includes the recording itself. The orchestral sound extends across the entire space between the loudspeakers. The stage clearly shows its depth, and the 20-piece orchestra is well staggered. Accordingly, the musicians are easy to locate and identify. The space also makes it possible to perceive the individual solo voices particularly well and enjoy their integrative performance in their interplay.
The conclusion of the Simply Mozart series is extremely successful with the Sinfonia Concertante, Symphony No. 39 & Così Fan Tutte Overture. (Thomas Semmler, HighResMac)
