Biography Cholet Känzig Papaux Trio
Cholet Känzig Papaux Trio
Created in February 2002 at the theater of Auxerre which invited Jean-Christophe Cholet, the birth of the Cholet-Känzig-Papaux Trio allowed the three musicians to gather around the pianists music and then to evolve naturally towards a common reflection.
Jean-Christophe Cholet is an extraordinary, unclassifiable pianist and composer, who combines listening, harmonic sophistication, marked sense of melody and the art of nuance and richness of timbres. Heiri Känzig and Marcel Papaux create some of the best rhythms in Europe. Individually, their development has given the opportunity to listen to them with: Michael Brecker, Billy Hart, Vienna Art Orchestra, Dewey Redman, Joe Lovano, John Scofield, Chris Potter, Franco Ambrosetti, Michel Portal, Arthur Blythe…
Their range of play is impressive from the minimalist accompaniment to the feverish groove, both in dynamics and in styles. On stage as well as in the studio, the understanding between the three musicians is evident. The trio is playing with ease and pleasure displaying sensitive play and an awareness of sound of very great quality which makes the most of the intentions of each one.
Their fourth album "Beyond the Circle" (2008) definitely confirms the aesthetic direction and clarifyies the trio´s identity which it has developed since its creation. It follows a wonderful collaboration with the famous American saxophonist Charlie Mariano recorded for Enja Records in March 2006 in the album « Silver Blue » (distr. Harmonia Mundi).
The next program will be created in August 2010 during an artist residency at Bird's Eyes' in Basel (CH). New CD-Release "Connex": Autumn 2011
