Katok Ensemble
The Katok Ensemble, founded in 2019 by Paul Serri, brings together musicians who share the same passion for chamber music, with the aim of making chamber music accessible to as many people as possible and putting an end to the idea that you have to be a scholar to appreciate it.
The Katok Ensemble is made up of Paul Serri, Camille Fonteneau, Schuichi Okada, Magdalena Sypniewski and David Petrilk (violins) - Léa Hennino, Anna Sypniewski, Issey Nadaud (violas) - Justine Metral, Rafael Cumont Vioque, Julie Sévilla-Fraysse and Volodia Van Keulen (cellos).
Its associate artists include Corentin Apparailly (composer) and Hugo Mallon (stage director).
The musicians are recognised chamber artists, each with a singular and demanding artistic approach.
The Katok Ensemble aims to create an ensemble identity with the ambition of preserving and bringing together the singularity of each musician.
The choice to be a variable-geometry ensemble allows for a wide repertoire of works, from the smallest form of chamber music - the duo - to the largest - the dextuor - and chooses to play the string sextet repertoire in particular.
Being a variable-geometry ensemble enables us to combine two often antagonistic concepts: long-term work and flexibility.
In the spirit of democratising chamber music and creating new encounters with the public, the Katok Ensemble has developed a chamber music festival in the Ardèche: the Katok Festival.
The Katok Ensemble also collaborates with other art forms, such as theatre and cinema. In particular, it has created a ‘concert-performance’ in collaboration with Hugo Mallon: Les saisons, based on the novel by Maurice Pons.
