Eric Ter
Eric's roots and influences date back to the 1960s, when he attended three unforgettable concerts at the Olympia: Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, and then the Mothers of Invention. During this time, he regularly played Tuesday nights on the "open stage" of the "Hootenanny" at the American Center (Bld Raspail), where he encountered Maxime Le Forestier, Dick Annegarn, Alan Stivell, Marcel Dadi, and others. His artistic approach became increasingly guided by his imagination. Like a sponge, he absorbed visual or musical information, fleeting impressions, or emotions, and transcribed them with his sonic palette.
His career began in 1976, when he recorded his first album at Dave Edmunds' Rockfield Studios in Wales with some of the most prestigious English musicians of the day, including Mick Taylor, who joined him at Olympic Studios in London, just after his departure from the Rolling Stones, to play on four tracks. The album (on CHARLY Records) was called "Sirkel & Co." (Sirkel being the pseudonym he would use until the 1980s). His second album, "Vertige," was released in 1978 on TREMA. Disappointed by a near-absence of promotion in both cases, he decided to join his drummer friend Marc Frentzel in New York, and the two young men quickly left for the West Coast where they formed a band with JO LEBB and PETIT POIS (formerly of VARIATIONS). Despite their explosive music, their excesses and differences would not allow them to survive for long. Eric would only leave after fifteen years and several day jobs, the main one being managing a recording studio and various productions. He recorded and produced five albums since his return in 1994 (see discography) and during this period won the SACEM Special Prize at the Blues Sur Seine Festival in 2007.
"Soundscape Road" was then released in 2013 on DIXIEFROG. After two Parisian concerts (SUNSET and NEW MORNING), he fled the capital to settle in Sancerre where he composed and recorded around twenty new tracks. After a meeting with Denis Thomas, he selected and refined thirteen which made up the album "Play It Up!" which was released under the latter's Chic Parisien label in January 2018, followed by "Voisine", which includes 14 tracks, then "Hérétique" (11 tracks in French + a cover of "She's In Love" by J.J. Cale) then again "Insouciance" (11 tracks in French + two instrumentals) in 2021 and finally "Cousu d'Or" (13 tracks + a cover of "(On va) Déconner" by and with CharLelie Couture.
