Info zu INTERSTICE

It's been nearly four years since Gold Coast metalcore quintet We Set Signals released their last original song – the now ironically titled 'Press X to Continue'. Since then, the band have only released one new song, that being a cover of Gracie Abrams' viral pop hit 'That's So True' for the seventh instalment of the Got You Covered compilation series, which came out last September.

The band has, however, finally pressed the proverbial X and released a long-awaited comeback single, entitled 'The End of Me'. The song was co-produced by lead vocalist Nick Wilkinson and bassist Storm Angus, alongside former Amity Affliction guitarist Troy Brady.

The comeback single picks up where the band's previous slick take on metalcore left off, with a bouncing riff charging through the gates and Wilkinson's far-reaching clean vocals soaring over the top. It's Nick's performance that serves as central to the song, as he has revealed the single's narrative is a deeply personal one with regards to his own self-discovery, as he shares with Wall Of Sound:

“'The End of Me' came from being diagnosed with ADHD, and having to rethink a lot of my life through that lens. There was grief in that but also relief. The song sits in that tension. It’s about the collapse of an old identity and the beginning of something more honest.”

Although it's been four years since their last original song and almost six years since the release of their second studio album Ordo, Wilkinson has shared a statement ensuring fans of the band that they haven't just been sitting idly by in the intervening years.

“We’re officially back, but this isn’t a comeback – it’s a reset,” he says.

“For the past two years the four of us have been quietly rebuilding everything from the ground up writing relentlessly and refining a sound that feels heavier, darker and more intentional than anything we’ve done before.

Nick Wilkinson, vocals
Mark Braithwaite, guitar

Inevitably this became the bands first release “Break These Walls”. The debut EP received a 4/5 from triple j’s Dave Ruby and Stu Harvey, including favourable reviews in Hysteria and Blunt Magazine’s. 2014 saw We Set Signals gain international popularity after releasing a Punk Goes Pop cover of Carly Rae Jepsens ‘Call Me Maybe’ receiving a combination of over 380,000 views on Youtube. Shortly following this the band released ‘That Was A Close One’, a single written to contribute to the awareness of victims of war. The same year found the band hitting the road in support of some of biggest names in Punk / Post Hardcore from Australia and abroad including The Amity Affliction, Funeral For A Friend, Alesana, Jonah Matranga, The Matches, D at Sea and Sienna Skies. In the same year the band release their second studio album ‘Polaris’ ...
