Info zu Telemann's Garden
Elephant House Quartet invites the listener for a stroll through the colourful oeuvre of Telemann — himself a gardening enthusiast — presenting a bouquet of chamber-musical jewels. Telemann’s Garden ranges from excerpts of solo fantasias for violin, flute and harpsichord to a sonata for viola da gamba and basso continuo, a trio sonata for violin, recorder and basso continuo, a suite for violin, flute and basso continuo, as well as one of the quartets Telemann wrote during his Paris sojourns. These pieces together constitute a fascinating portrait of one of the most prolific and successful composers of the Baroque era.
Elephant House Quartet is a Baroque ensemble featuring virtuosos on each instrument in wonderful interaction. Telemann’s Garden marks their PENTATONE debut.
Elephant House Quartet:
Bolette Roed, recorder
Aureliusz Goliński, violin
Reiko Ichise, viola da gamba
Allan Rasmussen, harpsichord
Elephant House Quartet
Most people can refer to the Quartets that became so popular during the classicism. Mozart string quartets, Haydn and so on…
Imagine now that during the baroque period the equivalent to the later so popular Quartets was the Trio sonatas. Bach trio sonatas, Telemann and so on…
It is really fascinating to think of how many absolutely wonderful pieces that was written for three voices only back then.
Almost each baroque composer - representing every possible style of that time - discloses his art and craft coping with this challenging form of composition.
Today musicians have the very special privilege to be able to read and play them all - and thereby to get the opportunity to choose to perform the very best of the best.
You can only imagine how big fun is to play these Trio sonatas with this Elephant House Quartet, solidly planted on it’s four legs, fulfilling the ideas of the composers mind, that came to him when making each piece of art…
Elephant House Quartet is made up by soloists and individually strong personalities, so even if this three voices repertoire is so rich and large we can’t help ourselves - we love to perform not only trio sonatas, but also suites, sonatas, concertos, solo fantasias and duos - bringing to the listener all possible color combinations of our four instruments - sharing with you all the music we love.
Bolette Roed
Is one of Europe's finest recorder players. She loves to play concerts and she loves to play for an audience giving each one of them a moment for relaxation, a place for reflection, a chance to feel time standing still... Together with Elephant House Quartet there is room for this - all 4 members are equally eager to present the music as beautiful and respectful as possible and the result is time standing still...
Bolette Roed has a soloist degree from The Royal Danish Music Academy, Copenhagen after studies with Dan Laurin. She also holds a medical degree from Copenhagen University. As all of us she loves many things - music, ice cream, seafood, making people around her smile, autumn leaves and ocean wind...
Reiko Ichise
Is one of Europe's finest viola da gamba players. She fell in love with her instrument back in Japan and left the piano in favour of the viola da gamba. She loves to be challenged and to have fun while playing, and this is how Elephant House was created... Because it's fun to do music with musicians you respect and admire...
Reiko Ichise has graduated from Royal College of music, London, where she now teaches herself. She is touring all over the world with the gamba on her back and her eyes on the many new places she visits. She loves doing chamber music, nice dry prosecco, horror movies, Danish series, beautiful jewellery and much more...
Allan Rasmussen
Is one of Europe's finest harpsichord players. He is crazy about harmonies, keyboards, organs and churches. He has an amazing natural approach to the music, feels the rythm and is stubborn like an elephant. His fingers are all over the keyboard creating new wonders in every play through - another reason for this quartet to exist - the fun of new ideas and inventions...
Allan Rasmussen graduated from the soloist class of The Royal Danish Academy, Copenhagen. He is the organist of Frederiksberg Church and founder of Midsommerbarok, one of Denmarks largest baroque music festivals. He loves crazy composers, good wine, insects, photography, fonts, architecture ...
Aureliusz Goliński
Is one of Europe's finest baroque violin players. He is the leader of the award winning Polish baroque orchestra, Arte dei Suonatori, and he has worked with many of the many of the major historically informed orchestras for more than 25 years. His analysis of the music is unbelievable - he understands structure and character as only few does. He seems to follow the composers mind and pays enormous respect to the thoughts behind every note.
Aureliusz Golinski was educated from London and Poznan music academies and he devoted himself to baroque music the moment he heard ... He has listened to all kinds of music and he loves Pink Floyd and Sting as much as Bach and Leclair. He is the kindest person one can imagine and he devotes his heart and life to music making which is heard in every note his produces... He loves sound, hi-fi equipment, mac computers, the apple pie of his mom, driving and diving into the music…
