Info zu Fishing Le Kiss
Known as the lead singer and lyricist for Telex, the emblematic electronic music trio he had founded in 1978 with Marc Moulin and Dan Lacksman, Michel Moers produced and recorded this first solo album which came out on Crammed Discs in 1990.
Fishing le Kiss is now being released digitally for the first time, in the wake of a full vinyl reissue of the Telex oeuvre by Mute Records, and following the release of Michel Moers’ second solo album, ‘As Is’ (Freaksville).
An album of inventive electronic pop music in French, not quite comparable to anything that was produced at the time, Fishing le Kiss was recorded in Brussels, and features collaborations by Vincent Kenis (The Honeymoon Killers/Aksak Maboul), Eric Melaerts (Soulsister), BJ Scott and Véronique Vincent (Aksak Maboul). The delightfully ironic lyrics were written by Michel Moers, except for two songs penned by renowned lyricist Jacques Duvall, while composition, programming, production and vocals were all handled by Moers.
30 years later, Fishing Le Kiss is redigitized, remastered—its songs remain untouched, not a word or note removed. They’re songs I could have written today, though dressed differently (like my new version of Les Gens Sont Affligeants on As Is).
Back in 1990, this album was a response to TELEX’s minimalism, to the distance imposed by the band’s musical genre. It was about expressing something more personal, more intimate, perhaps. It was also my first step into working solo.
Coming from a trio that thrived on a constant back-and-forth of ideas, working alone wasn’t easy. I had to ask the questions, answer them, and learn to observe and listen to myself from the outside. At times, it required a bit of schizophrenia.
At the time, I was listening to a lot of Womack & Womack, thinking I was drawing inspiration from them. Now, though I remember the intention, I struggle to find the traces of it. ;-)
And here it is, Fishing Le Kiss, freshly beamed via satellite on demand. As BJ Scott says in a little phone recording, only love matters. (Michel Moers)
