Info zu The Very Best Of Eric Burdon & WAR (2025 Remaster)
The Very Best of Eric Burdon and War is a double album-set. The set is the next instalment in a series of special edition products celebrating War's 50+ years of music making. Pulling from the band's first ever studio albums - 1970's Eric Burdon Declares 'WAR' and The Black-Man's Burdon - newly remastered audio by Bernie Grundman, newly designed album and packaging, and three newly discovered bonus tracks from the Avenue Records archives.
After fronting The Animals and becoming one of the defining voices of the British Invasion, Eric Burdon sought a new musical direction in the late 1960s. In 1969, he teamed up with the Long Beach funk band WAR, a collaboration that produced hits like “Spill the Wine,” included in this release alongside its unedited remix, and earned accolades from fans, fellow musicians, and journalists—including NME’s Richard Green, who called them “the best live band I ever saw.” WAR’s legendary producer Jerry Goldstein adds, “This collection documents one of the great bands of the early ’70s at their best, both live and in the studio.”
Capturing the raw spark of Burdon and WAR’s earliest recording sessions, this collection revisits their first two groundbreaking albums—Eric Burdon Declares “War” (1970) and The Black-Man’s Burdon (1970)—produced by Jerry Goldstein and remastered in stunning detail by the legendary Bernie Grundman. The set also unveils three never-before-heard gems from the Avenue Records vaults, offering fans a deeper glimpse into the formative years that helped shape the band’s signature sound.
Complete with striking new artwork and deluxe packaging, this definitive collection brings together the power, experimentation, and cultural force that made WAR a sound—and a movement—that still resonates half a century later.
As 2025 marks 55 years since WAR’s initial formation, these releases help plot the roadmap from WAR’s first inception in 1970s Long Beach, California to this year’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony, celebrating a band that broke genre boundaries with their unique fusion of funk, rock, Latin, jazz, and soul and soundtracked American history in the process. From their breakout hits like “Spill the Wine” and “Low Rider” to their socially conscious anthems like “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” which also celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year, WAR’s music has remained a vibrant reflection of American life, culture, and collaboration, cementing their legacy as one of the most innovative and enduring bands of their generation.

Eric Burdon
has one of the most powerful and distinctive voices in rock and roll. A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 1994, and hailed by Rolling Stone as one of the 100 Greatest Voices of All Time, Burdon’s music forged new territory while also topping the charts for more than five decades.
Highly prolific, Burdon has released nearly 50 records in those 50 years, as front man of The Animals and WAR and simply as Eric Burdon. Through the changing sounds and genres, what remains constant is his courage as an artist to explore new sounds, leading into new territory with his unrivaled and unique voice. Eric Burdon has shared the stage with legends such as Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Witherspoon, Otis Redding and Bruce Springsteen, and recently cited by cutting edge musicians like Patti Smith and Iggy Pop in their personal top tens.
Eric began his musical journey as a young man growing up in Newcastle, England. Listening to his idols, Ray Charles and Bo Diddley, Eric immersed himself in American blues and jazz. As front man and driving force of the British Invasion band The Animals, Burdon helped shape rock and roll’s DNA, and Eric’s imposing yet soulful vocals are the driving force of the iconic favorite "House of the Rising Sun”.
A long string of hits followed, including "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and the Vietnam-era anthem, "We Gotta Get Out of This Place." Pioneering the psychedelic San Francisco sound, Burdon's classics include "San Franciscan Nights" and "Monterey".
Burdon continued through the years to perform with different iterations of the Animals, while also founding and fronting the funk group War, one of the first multiracial bands, and topped the charts again with his groundbreaking hit single “Spill the Wine”.
In the following decades Burdon has become an accomplished painter and author, and he continues to record and tour as a solo artist. The year 2013 will see the release of his new album, “Til Your River Runs Dry."
