Waiting for Clara evokes the platonic love of Brahms for Clara Schumann, wife of Robert Schumann, whom he so admired, and who in turn so admired him.

Through this trio of renowned composers, this album unearths the core musical essence of German lyricism: amidst Robert Schumann’s Fairy Tales and Brahms’ Lullaby, between tormented Romanticism and melancholy nostalgia, are nestled Clara Schumann’s luminous Romances.

For his first NoMadMusic album, Julien Hervé has surrounded himself with his friends and regular collaborators Jean Sugitani, Isabelle Druet and Pierre-Marc Vernaudon.

Julien Herve
Having originally planned to take a physics degree, Julien Hervé decided at the age of 21 to devote himself to music instead and worked with Pascal Moraguès at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique (CNSM), Paris. An eclectic musician, he performs all kinds of music, and has created a patchwork musical life for himself, centered around the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, for whom he has been principal clarinet since 2008, playing under the greatest conductors in the world’s finest concert halls.

As a soloist, Julien has appeared with Rotterdam Philharmonic orchestra, Sinfonia Rotterdam, Prag Philharmonia, Lodz Philharmonic Orchestra ,Louisianna Chamber Orchestra, Les Dissonnances, Les Siècles, La Symphonie des Lumières, Orchestre régional de Cannes, Orchestre de Chambre de France, Banda Sinfónica Municipal de Madrid, Orchestre de Picardie... As chamber musician, he is very much in demand and performs in prestigious Festivals. He is a member of Het Collectief and Calliopée Ensemble, artistic director of the Rotterdam Chamber Music Society and of Festival International de Musique de Chambre de Thèze.

He is developping new material with the brand D'Addario and is a Buffet Crampon Artist.

Julien is currently teaching in the Codarts, University of Performing Arts in Rotterdam.

In 2018 he has performed as soloist with Joyce DiDonato and Yannick Nézet-Séguin for the 100th anniversary of the Rotterdam Philharmonic, live broadcast by Medici.

His recordings have been acclaimed internationaly.

Isabelle Druet
is one of the most appreciated mezzo-sopranos of her generation. She passes with equal happiness from opera to recital and crosses the centuries from Monteverdi to Britten with disconcerting ease.

A musician with an atypical background, she first trained in the theater, then made her first steps as a singer in current and traditional music, while studying singing at the CNSMD in Paris. Numerous awards soon followed ("Promising lyrical artist 2007" from ADAMI, winner of the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition 2008, Most Promising lyrical Artist at the "Victoires de la musique classique 2010", Rising Star 2013) and engagements in the greatest opera houses and with the most renowned ensembles.

She has been working with conductors like François-Xavier Roth, Leonard Slatkin, René Jacobs, Raphaël Pichon, Laurence Equilbey and alongside the London Symphony Orchestra, the Gürzenich Orchester, the TonhalleOrchester Zürich, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the National Orchestra of Lyon, the Orchestre National de Liège, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Pygmalion ensemble, the Arts Florissants, the Berliner Barocksolisten and the Insula orchestra.

Isabelle Druet's discography includes recordings with Vincent Dumestre's Le Poème Harmonique, her recitals with pianists Johanne Ralambondrainy (Jardin Nocturne) and Anne Le Bozec (Shakespeare songs), Ravel's SHÉHÉRAZADE and L’HEURE ESPAGNOLE with the Orchestre national de Lyon conducted by Leonard Slatkin, an Alma Mahler / Zemlinsky program with the Orchestre Victor Hugo Franche Comté conducted by Jean-François Verdier or the DVD IL RITORNO D’ULISSE IN PATRIA with Emmanuel Haïm's Concert d'Astrée.

Future engagements include Béatrice/BÉATRICE ET BÉNÉDICT at the Cologne Opera and CORONIS at the Opéra Comique as well as Mahler’s 2nd SYMPHONY and Ravel’s KADDISH with the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa, a concert with l'Orchestre Victor Hugo franche-Comté and several other concert projects all around France.

Jean Sugitani
was born in 1981 in Japan. He studied the piano, chamber music, composition and education at the Paris Conservatory (CNSM) where he won a number of first prizes before going into chamber music.

As a soloist and chamber musician, Jean-Hisanori has been the laureate of several national and international competitions. He frequently shares the stage with some of the most celebrated musical figures of his generation. A passionate advocate of symphonic music, he is a member of the Les Siècles orchestra.

The advocacy and promotion of contemporary music have been constants throughout his career, and he participates actively in helping audiences discover the contemporary repertoire. This commitment carries through into his work as an educator: a state-certified music instructor, he teaches at the Conservatory of Bourg-la-Reine/Sceaux (CRD).

Pierre-Marc Vernaudon
Born into a family of musicians, Pierre-Marc Vernaudon began his musical training at age eight at the Conservatoire de Limoges where he studied the violin under Gabriela Oprea. He went on to study at the Versailles Conservatory (CRR), and then the Paris Conservatory (CNR) under Sabine Toutain and Christophe Gaugué, and finally at the Lyon Conservatory (CNSM) where he completed his graduate studies under Tasso Adamopoulos.

An orchestral and chamber music enthusiast, he moved to the Netherlands to perfect his art at the Rotterdam Conservatory. However, he only remained for three months after winning his first Orchestra Competition and joining the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Yannick Nézet Séguin, in 2010.

Next came numerous world tours, recordings and opera productions under the direction of such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Yannick Nézet Séguin, Sir Simon Rattle, Robin Ticciati, Manfred Honneck, and many more.

Vernaudon founded the Rotterdam Chamber Music Society in 2013 with Julien Hervé.

The ensemble's purpose is to bring young talent from European conservatories together with more experienced musicians from the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.

A modern music enthusiast, he was invited in 2013 to the Festival Gergiev to play the Dutch premiere of Guillaume Connesson's sextet live on the radio. He is also a devoted interpreter of composers such as Pascal Zavaro, Osvaldo Golijov, György Kurtag, Franco Donatoni, and Emmanuel Nunes.

Pierre-Marc Vernaudon plays on a 1999 Jean-Louis Blivet viola, and an Arnaud Suard bow.
