Info for What Cannot be Told

Jazz star Isabella Lundgren is one of Sweden’s foremost jazz vocalists, renowned for her incredible voice and unique intensity that captivates audiences. She is now releasing new music in collaboration with the musical genius Johan Lindström. Their new album, "What Cannot Be Told".

With them on stage are Martin Hederos (The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Tonbruket etc.), Dan Berglund (E.S.T., Rymden, Tonbruket etc.), and Nils Törnqvist (Amason, Träd Gräs och Stenar etc.).

– It is easy to love what is beautiful, but what do I do with everything else? That inside me and in the world that chafes, that is deformed. This is a prayer to be able to love that which cannot be saved.

This is what Isabella talks about the single “What cannot be saved”, the first single from the new album. Her words and tones have taken on new color and form in the encounter with Johan Lindström’s unique creative gift. It’s music that moves between genres and worlds – which, in both words and tone, searches for precisely the ineffable longing that exists within us.

Isabella Lundgren is one of Sweden’s leading jazz singers and a world-class artist. With a fantastic voice and unique intensity, she has the ability to literally captivate her audience. Isabella has been nominated for a Grammy and has been awarded numerous prizes and scholarships. In recent years, we have seen her sing both at the Sports Gala and SVT’s New Year’s Concert, Allsång at Skansen and in På Spåret. In 2016, Isabella gave an attention-grabbing Summer Talk in P1 where she highlighted several of the life issues that are also reflected and are central to her music.

Johan Lindström is undoubtedly one of Sweden’s most sought-after musicians and composers, known as guitarist & pedal steel guitarist in the four-time Grammy award-winning Tonbruket and his own Johan Lindström Septett. Also known for, as a producer, often succeeding in picking up unsuspected musical nuggets in artists. Rebecka Törnqvist, Elvis Costello, Ane Brun, Freddie Wadling, Totta Näslund, Titiyo and Anna Ternheim are just a few of the artists Johan Lindström has collaborated with, and now Isabella Lundgren has also been added to this solid list.

Isabella Lundgren
At just 18, Isabella Lundgren left Karlstad for New York, where she studied and performed between 2006 and 2010 on some of the city's most legendary jazz stages. Over the course of her career, she has released several critically acclaimed albums in both Sweden and Japan, and in 2015, she was awarded Orkesterjournalen's prestigious Gyllene Skivan as well as receiving a Grammy nomination. That same year, she also won the Jazzkatt award for Musician of the Year at the Swedish Radio’s Jazzkatten Gala. Throughout her career, Lundgren has received numerous prestigious honors, including the Monica Zetterlund Scholarship, STIM Scholarship, Louis Armstrong and Anita O'Day Scholarships, the Stockholm City Culture Award, and the Gustaf Fröding Award. She has also graced major stages such as the Swedish Sports Gala, SVT’s New Year Concert, *Allsång på Skansen*, and the popular TV show *På Spåret*. In 2016, she gave a memorable Summer Talk on P1, delving into the life questions that are central to both her music and her artistic expression.

Johan Lindström
has been described as a musical magician, with a wide range of artistic activities as a musician, composer, arranger and producer. He is a personable musician who leaves a clear mark on the context that he works in. In a unique way, he combines influences from different areas and creates a dynamic and musical whole at the forefront.

He’s one of Sweden’s most sought-after musicians and producers, known from, among other things, the multiple award-winning Tonbruket and collaborations with artists including Rebecka Törnqvist, Elvis Costello, Ane Brun, Norrbotten Big Band, the Royal Swedish Army Band, Nils Petter Molvaer, Freddie Wadling, Totta Näslund and Anna Ternheim.

With his star-studded band “Johan Lindström Septett” (JOHAN LINDSTRÖM – guitar, pedal-steel, JONAS KULLHAMMAR - saxophone, PER TEXAS JOHANSSON – saxophone, clarinet, MATS ÄLEKLINT – trombone, JESPER NORDENSTRÖM – keyboard, THORBJÖRN ZETTERBERG – double bass, KONRAD AGNAS – drummer) he has released two acclaimed albums, “Music for empty halls” (2018) and “On the Asylum” (2021). The band has been awarded both Grammys and Sveriges Radio’s Jazzkatt. In his varied compositions, which are impossible to place in time and space, Johan Lindström brings out the best in each musician with a finesse. Lindström’s artistry breaks new ground and creates music so uniquely genre-less that labels become meaningless.
