Marco Mezquida
Award-winning pianist and composer Marco Mezquida was born on the island of Menorca, Spain, in 1987. He initiated his musical education at the age of eight. In 2009, he graduated from the School of Music of Catalonia (ESMUC), where he studied jazz improvisation, classical and contemporary music with Albert Bover, Lluís Vidal, Agustín Fernández, Coll and Juan Ramón de la Rubia.
Currently based in Barcelona, Mezquida is one of the most active pianists in the regional jazz scene. He has recorded albums as a soloist and sideman, as well as collaborations with flamenco guitarist Chicuelo and other artists.
He has performed throughout the world as a member of some of well known Spanish groups, such as Marc Miralta Quartet, Giulia Valle Group, Raynald Colom Quartet, Albert Cirera Quartet, Herb Robertson, Omar Tamez, Miguel Fernandez Quartet, Celeste-Mezquida Duo, Selnik-Mezquida Duo, Carme Canela, Victor de Diego, Masa Kamaguchi, Gorka Benitez, and Rafa Lechowsky.
Mezquida is currently a Professor at the School of Music Studies Musician’s Workshop Barcelona (ESEM).
