Musikikone Chrissie Hynde meldet sich mit einem besonderen Projekt zurück: Unter dem Namen Chrissie Hynde & Pals erscheint am 17. Oktober via Parlophone das neue Album “Duets Special”. Darauf: 13 außergewöhnliche Duette mit hochkarätigen Gästen wie k.d. lang, dem verstorbenen Mark Lanegan, Dave Gahan, Cat Power, Brandon Flowers, Debbie Harry, Shirley Manson, Alan Sparhawk und vielen mehr.

Zur Entstehungsgeschichte sagt Chrissie Hynde: „Ich hatte nie darüber nachgedacht, ein Duett-Album zu machen. Die Idee kam 2023, als ich mit Jörn, dem Mann von Rufus Wainwright, telefonierte. Ich glaube, wir haben uns gerade gegenseitig Romane empfohlen – und aus irgendeinem Grund meinte ich: Hey, vielleicht sollten Rufus und ich mal was zusammen machen. Spontan habe ich zehn Songs aufgeschrieben, die mir sofort einfielen. Jörn fragte Rufus, der direkt Lust hatte – so hat das Ganze angefangen. Eine spontane Sache, von der ich dachte, dass sie einfach Spaß machen würde.“

Die Gästeliste auf “Duets Special” vereint 13 unverwechselbare Stimmen – in reduzierten, intimen Arrangements und mit minimalistisch-feiner Instrumentierung. Der gemeinsame Nenner: großartige Melodien. “Duets Special” ist nicht einfach nur Chrissie Hyndes viertes Soloalbum – es ist ein überraschender, aufregender Richtungswechsel mitten in einer der kreativsten Phasen ihrer Karriere. Es folgt direkt auf das aktuelle Pretenders-Album Relentless (2023), das der Guardian als „ihr melodisch bestes“ feierte. Die anschließende Welttournee führte auch zu einem neuen Live-Album, “Kick ’em Where It Hurts” (2025). Als Chrissie im letzten Jahr beim Mark Lanegan 60 Celebration Concert im Londoner Roundhouse auftrat, schrieb die Times, ihre Stimme „müsste längst UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe sein.“

Akron, Ohio-born Chrissie Hynde had her eye on rock stardom from an early age. In high school she frequently traveled to Cleveland to see shows, and after attending art school she moved to London to be closer to the UK music scene. Her time abroad involved a veritable who's who of the British music world -- she wrote for the renowned music magazine NME under the eye of critic Nick Kent, worked at Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood's legendary SEX clothing shop, and toured with Mick Jones in an early incarnation of The Clash. After several stints in other bands, Hynde formed The Pretenders in 1978. The band's self-titled 1979 debut album launched them to stardom overnight, topping the UK Albums Chart and spawning the seminal No. 1 single "Brass in Pocket". A string of acclaimed albums followed over the next three decades including Pretenders II (1981), Last of the Independents (1994), and Break Up the Concrete (2008), which the band accompanied with extensive worldwide touring. In 2014 Hynde made her solo debut with the album Stockholm, a critical success that stands with her best work with The Pretenders.
