Info for Cicatrices
Manuel Luque Regodón
(Madrid, 15 May 2000) is a contrabaixista, currently living in Barcelona. He grew up in a small town in the south-east of Madrid (Nou Baztán), where he started playing the guitar. He travelled to the United States (Rochester, NY) in 2016, where he discovered jazz, playing in different local bands. He studied jazz contrabass at the Conservatorium Maastricht (Netherlands) with Matthias Nowak and John Goldsby, and a Master in Jazz Contrabass Performance at ESMUC (Barcelona) with Horacio Fumero.
An active and involved musician, he has been part of various groups as a sideman and leader (ML Quartet, Coulbois & Luque, Forbidden Act, Xavier Maldonado Trio, Dualistic, Free Trees, Chimbet, among others.
He has taken part in various stages, festivals and competitions, both on the peninsula and in Europe (Jazz Out Festival, AIM Awards, Maastricht Jazz Awards, AINSI Theater, Weekend van de Romantische Muziek (Rotterdam), Dias Latinos Festival (Amersfoort), Robadors23, MAS I MAS Festival, Jimmy Glass, Jamboree, among others).
Thanks to his time in Maastricht, he has been greatly influenced by modern jazz, hard-bop, avant-garde and Nordic jazz, but he also looks to his own roots, to traditional music, flamenco and Latin music, a combination that he explores as a performer and in his facet as a composer.
These influences are evident in his first album as a leader with ML Quartet, "Cicatrices" (Temps Record, 2024), in which he explores original compositions inspired by different moments in his life.
This album contains no booklet.
