Info for Ella Mai

British-born singer Ella Mai has been grinding for years, and her hard work is paying off. The 23-year-old auditioned for the X-Factor as part of a trio called Arize. The group didn’t make it past the audition phase.

The experience proved to be a stepping stone for Mai, who went solo and unleashed a flurry of original songs on SoundCloud as well as covers on Instagram, organically building a fanbase before catching the attention of superstar producer DJ Mustard. He signed Mai in 2016, and the pair worked together on a trilogy of EPs.

“I don’t think she has a ceiling,” Mustard said in an interview with Billboard. “I refer to her as ‘The GOAT,’ because people have yet to see what she can do and how talented she is. I think with me and her working closely together like we do and with her being signed to me, that’s like my prodigy. I think there’s no ceiling with what she’s going to do.”

Mai hit a breakthrough in 2018 when her single “Boo’d Up” off of her latest EP, Ready, tore up the radio charts, claiming its crown as one of the summer’s hottest songs. It’s reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100, and an official remix featuring rap royalty Nicki Minaj and Quavo of Migos will only continue to drive it up the charts.

Alongside her star-studded collaborations, including “She Don’t” with Ty Dolla $ign, Mai also had the honour of opening for Kehlani on her SweetSexySavage tour. With this experience under her belt, the singer is prepping to go on her first headlining tour, kicking off in August.

Ella Mai
After leaving BIMM London, Grammy Award-winning Ella Mai relocated to LA and quickly gained traction as an R&B artist. After her Instagram covers caught his attention, she signed to DJ Mustard’s 10 Summers record label. Shortly after releasing her self-titled debut album in late 2018, she signed a global record deal with Sony/ATV.

Ella was establishing herself as a major player in the music business, and she even became the first British artist in 26 years to score a no.1 single on the US R&B chart with ‘Boo’d Up’. The hit single was nominated for two Grammys – Song of the Year and Best R&B Song – and won the latter award. US titans Nicki Minaj and Quavo then remixed the single. Ella won three awards at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, including Top R&B Artist, and received nominations for British Breakthrough Act at the BRIT Awards.

After a very successful debut headline tour in 2019, Ella joined Ariana Grande on the European leg of her Sweetener World Tour in the same year. Ella has also toured with Bruno Mars and collaborated with Ed Sheeran, Usher, and Ty Dolla $ign.

In 2020, Ella released the single ‘Not Another Love Song’, which peaked at no.9 in the US R&B charts. The track was featured in Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty fashion show, and Ella also performed it on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert a few days after its release.

Her second album, Heart On My Sleeve (2022), debuted at no.15 on the US Billboard 200 and no.2 on the Top R&B Albums chart. Her latest EP, 3, was released in November 2024 to celebrate her 30th birthday. In this record, she writes honestly about love and celebrates the small things in life.
