Info for Echoes of our memories

The music of the new album "Echoes of our memories" is original, mostly to texts written by the late Fran Landesman, a poet Anne-Marie has collaborated with since the early 1980s. Eivind Aarset is the producer and the music will be released on Anne-Marie's own new label, "In Your Dreams Records", with cover design by Iben Sandemose.

In 2008, Anne-Marie Giørtz, who was also part of the well-known Ab und Zu and Trio de Janeiro, founded the Anne - Marie Giørtz trio. Most of the music is self-written. In 2009, the trio released the album "På egne vegne". In February 2016, the sequel "Capital Punishment for Cars" was released. Both released by Grappa.

"The album is nothing less than a sparkling piece of music from an innovative and fearless artist. Produced by husband and guitarist/sound researcher Eivind Aarset, this is a very varied collection of cuts, which masterfully alternates from noisy to the warm.... The lyrics also help to create a sharp edge to the highly inventive arrangements, and with percussionist Peter Baden in the creative corner and a top-notch sound production, this is simply gold." 8Ando Woltmann, Jazznytt)

"This has become Anne-Marie Giørtz's most accomplished and best album to date! It should be able to open up for her, both at home and abroad, and with these musicians she is in the best hands in the world. It's rare that I've been so happy about a "come back" disc as after listening through "Capital Punishment for Cars" a few times. I simply become happy, joyful, and perhaps also a slightly better person, by listening to Anne-Marie Giørtz, Eivind Aarset and Peter Baden and their "Capital Punishment for Cars". And I think many more people than me should be allowed to experience this, so by all means let the world also experience this, not only on disc, but also in concert!" (Jan Granli, Salt Peanuts)

She is also married to Eivind Aarset, a Norwegian guitarist. Ske is well-known for her many recordings with different bands. Giortz began her career as a trumpeter in Lysaker’s school marching band. She studied piano and saxophones at University of Oslo (1976-1980), and was a part of the “EIM” jazz band (1982-82). Before she started her Anne Marie Giortz Kvintett (1982-1986), she worked with her brother Ole Henrik Giortz. Her band Ab und Zu continued to support the band. Radiostorbandet and Danmarks Radiostorband are other partners. She was a member of the Rock band Bazar, which was founded in Oslo by Rolf Aakervik in 1970. Their first album, Det er ikke enkelt, was released in 1973. It had a clear and radical message. The lyrics reflected the current fight against EEC. Giortz is a prominent figure in Trio de Janeiro (1988-19), where she was awarded Spellemannprisen 1993. She co-authored the Moldejazz commission Den akustiske Skyggen (1993) with her brother Ole Henrik. She also contributes to ‘Skrapjern Og silke’ (1999), which is based on stage performances with texts by Lars Saabye Christensen, and music composed in part by Ole Henrik Giortz.
