Info for Mushroom: 50 Years Of Making Noise (Reimagined)
Mushroom 50 Live is a celebration of Australia’s most iconic music company, with some of the country’s most adored artists across multiple generations set to come together for a once-in-a-lifetime event. More than 20 of our favourite local music stars will play a bumper set of smash-hit songs to celebrate the record company’s 50th anniversary, including Jimmy Barnes, the Temper Trap, Amy Shark, Hunters and Collectors and heaps more.
Artists will perform a mix of originals and classic songs, hand-selected from the revered Mushroom catalogue including anthems such as ‘Working Class Man’, ‘Holy Grail’, ‘Sweet Disposition’, ‘Riptide’, ‘Hoops’, ‘It’s Only the Beginning’, ‘Before Too Long’, and ‘Living In The 70’s’, with plenty more to be revealed on the night.
These esteemed artists and classic tracks have become the soundtrack to millions of people around the country. While Mushroom 50 Live will pay homage to that legacy, the event will also look to the future, showcasing the next generation of Mushroom artists who will make their own mark on the Australian music landscape in the years to come.
In 1972, a 19-year-old Michael Gudinski formed Mushroom Records and Mushroom Music Publishing in Melbourne, and it didn’t take long for the companies to make a significant impact on the Australian music scene. By the mid ‘70s, Mushroom was at the epicentre of a seismic shift in the way Australians interacted with music and live entertainment, and things were never the same.
Since then, Mushroom has been a driving force of near every element of the region’s music and entertainment industry, broadcasting Australian culture across the globe and bringing the world’s brightest talent to our doorstep for fifty years. Over the decades, Mushroom has blossomed into a group of two-dozen specialist music and entertainment companies that are each leaders in their respective fields. Now lead by Michael’s son Matt Gudinski, the Mushroom Group now incorporates international and domestic touring, booking agencies, artist and talent management, record labels, music publishing, merchandising, creative and marketing services, venues, exhibition and event production, film production and distribution, and more.
Throughout 2023, Mushroom has big plans to commemorate fifty years of unforgettable songs, artists and moments with several upcoming special projects. So, keep your eyes and ears peeled for what promises to be a historic celebration of 50 Years of Making Noise.
Matt Gudinski said in a statement, “In the early seventies, my father set out to create Mushroom to support the thriving homegrown music scene and great Australian music talent which was starting to emerge. This experience provides a great insight into that roller coaster journey and the iconic artists who helped shape our industry into what it is today, and we are proud to have it on show at the Australian Music Vault which my dad was instrumental in bringing to life.”
