Info for Afofona
"Afofona" is first and foremost a word from the secret language of newborn babies. An ancestral cry whose sound makes no sense. In Bambara, "afofona" could mean: to speak or express oneself involuntarily. It's tempting to link this meaning to the spontaneous outpouring that characterises improvisation, that delightful state of letting go, akin to the language of children. With this first album, Brame de Zéphyr lays the foundations of its own dialect, a veritable hybrid between Mandingo sounds and modern jazz. The group's distinctive songwriting blends seamlessly with phases of unbridled improvisation, forging an outstanding group sound.
